Thanks brian for the reminder.

Man water sure can change things lol. Wasn't too happy about how that ended up hopefully, I can figure out what I could have done different.

Thanks for the anchor kristy :)

Trail carnage- lost my wheel weights on the driver front, track bar bolt came loose at the frame (misplaced the correct tools somewhere. Luckily the drive home nothing wobbled.) And a overextended shock that now leaks :(

I have always wondered if those X jacks would really work. Looks like I have photographic proof now. It's now on the list, right behind a winch.

This had to be one of the best 'wheeling trips in memory. The scenery was beautiful, the weather was great, and you couldn't ask for a better mix of people to wheel with. Seriously, I would re-live this exact experience and be quite happy.

I have a few photos and perhaps even a couple video clips. I'll look unto uploading them when I can.

A few observations:

#1. The granite face where I slid sideways. Steve passed on it because it looked "too tippy" to him, and that's fine because I would never tell someone how to drive their own vehicle. But I kept looking at it and thought to myself, "it doesn't look that bad." I chose a line which probably would have worked well in the complete absence of mud. Thanks to the moisture, my nose quickly slid to the left and threatened to wedge me in place. I decided to bail out and, perhaps to the surprise of a few onlookers, managed to climb my way out of the obstacle's left side. Kristy did a fantastic job driving over this one, and then Dillon had his own problems as Steve mentioned. Finally, Brian breezed through it so fast that we almost booed at him--seriously, he made us all look bad.

#2: my stuck incident. Coming back down in the dark, I failed to see that one large rock. I drug the front end over it with minimal effort, but my left rear shock mount got wedged in a little "pocket" on top of the rock. Kevin tried to strap me off it, but he couldn't get enough grip in the mud. We were all impressed when Steve pulled out his magic balloon jack, and even more impressed when we saw it in action. I'm sure he helped sell at least a couple of them. ;)

Oh, an honorable mention goes to Kristy. At one point I referred to her as AutoZone on wheels, but that is misleading since the typical AutoZone does not have as many parts and supplies on hand as she does in her Jeep. I am not kidding, and everyone who was with us knows what I'm talking about. Long story short, she is very welcome to accompany us on our run to the Rubicon Trail (or any other Jeeping excursion, for that matter).

What a great evening. Thanks for making it happen, Steve.

What an excellent trail, and what a groovy crew to run it with. I'd definitely dig wheeling with any of you again, and I'm sorry I won't make the Rubicon trip. I was too busy being spotted through the rough spots and replacing missing tire plugs to remember to take any video of the rest of you, and I feel kinda bad about it. Here's some video of me flailing like a noob to make up for it.

Makes me think of last year on Poison Spider when we came across an older Jeep who blew a gas line, we pull up and I offer him 3 different sizes of hose to choose from and 5 sizes of hose clamps, I think I even have a steering wheel puller in my spare parts bag. Every group needs a parts carrier in the mix.

Dempsey, sorry if the trip report made it sound like you're a bad driver, I didn't mean for it to come across that way. You definitely had more guts than I did to try that ledgy granite off camber slab. And nice job getting out of there!

Kevin, you're going to LOVE new tires. It'll make a huge difference for ya.

Great trip report! Looks like you guys had too much fun. I haven't been up to Mineral Basin in like 20 years and keep saying I'm going to do it "this summer" but every summer seems to fill up and be gone so fast it never happens.

Oh, no--I didn't interpret it that way at all, Steve. By the same token, I certainly wasn't digging on you for choosing to bypass that obstacle (so I hope you didn't think so).

I only got four photos of the whole trip. My group shot at the beginning of the trip:

And here are a few shots of Dillon when he got caught between a rock and a hard place:

Here is where Brian shamed us all (well, except for Kristy).

Dillon puts his front locker to good use:

Everyone with an open front diff needed a couple tries to climb the left turn at the end of this video.

It was funny when I got to the top of that one and stopped everyone told me to go back down and make it at least look challenging. The really funny part is when I got to the next little ledge and bottomed out and had to back up and take a new line where everyone else just drove over it there aren't any pics or video of that I don't think. I love how stable my Jeep is and how well it climbs and crawls but I can't wait until next year when I have another inch or two of clearance.

This is the first time in four years I have gone up mineral basin with a group and even with the water I think I had less trouble than I ever have. I guess I was just showing off or something, I think most of the time my Jeep drives itself up most of this stuff.
