Mineral Basin Trip Saturday 22, 2009

Some Family and friends are all going out to run Mineral Basin this Saturday. I had a question about how far up the trail is legal to go. I was up there last time and saw a "Property of Snowbird, no trespassing" sign and wasn't sure to venture any further.

What is technically the furthest that anyone can go up the trail?

I've seen pics on the web of vehicles all the way up to the lifts. Is this considered serious trespassing in the eyes of the landowners and will they prosecute?

I am in no way interested in causing an issue. I actually would be very embarrassed if there were an incident regarding this because my work relationship with Snowbird will need to remain outstanding.

Post up if you know anything as I will be leading the group of 4-5 rigs up this trail.

Should be a blast. My favorite trail right now based on difficulty and scenery.

Post up if you will be heading out so we can say what's up.

We'll hit the trail at 2pm

Vehicles: Scrambler, CJ7, CJ5, TJ and maybe more(Brian).

Closed. Had they been OK with travel passed their sign they would have worded it as such. :D So the trail does stop at the sign, regardless if the gate is open or closed. Keep in mind Snowbird owns tons of other land in the AF Canyon area and have been kind enough to allow travel there. Respecting their land and their private property is a huge step towards keeping that access.

fwiw this is what their other property signs look like

I realized that I answered my own question. More than anything I wanted an affirmation to what I saw and if that is what I understood. As well as anyone above that sign was being negligent.

I hope we can keep Snowbird as open minded as they have been, it's beautiful out there in MB Summer or Winter.

I'm interested in finding out if they would be open to mountain biking down the back and out though the MB trail and joining the Forest Lake trail up to the ridge and down to Utah Valley. Long day, but very scenic. I know who to ask for access but it's fun to think about now that Snowbird is MTB official.

I'm 95% sure that mtn. biking and hiking are welcome, just no motorized vehicles on those sections of their property. Shawn here on RME might be able to answer that, otherwise give Snowbird a call and ask.

Just to make you jealous, a couple of pics from last week :D

Yeah, they don't mind biking on their roads however why do that when you can just run the Ridge 157 trail on singletrack instead of biking on the roads and having to bike up to Forest Lake to access only some of it?

I tire easy. Therefore I search out odd-ball trail combos.

Cruiseroutfit, what makes you think I haven't been there?

Ok, I have never been in a vehicle. So, yeah I'm jealous.

1999-tj, That's the plan right? Bring zeke and the wife if she isn't working. Like always there are more takers than vehicles. Both my jeeps will be going and I might even install the second seat in mine. Little B is frantically searching for a Cj so he can have a rig but they all have a catch. Maybe one will happen last minute. Since my wife will be driving we might opt for Forest or MEG due to driving experience and a new rig prone to failure.

I just installed Tj flairs on the 7!!! They look good and shortened my mondo long bumper.

Really sounds like fun.

Forest road is not really enough of a trail for me, given the time it takes on that wash board to get there, but given that I have never done mineral basin I want to get up there someday... And hope that it is worth the long drive. Funny I went down that road in my WJ a while back and it was such an easy road to drive on, then went back a few weeks later in my CJ and I thought I was going to break something, and had to go much slower to keep myself from bouncing out of the jeep...

Yeah. It could be tight for you through the Rock Garden and a few other minor spots but with some steady spotting and careful driving it shouldn't be too difficult. We can down it the other day with a stocker Nissan on ~32" tires. Granted the trip up is harder and he would have struggled a bit.

I struggled in spots with 35's and lockers. But struggled means I was nervous for body damage and had never run the trail and didn't know what line to pick.

I need to make myself clear. My group is a immediate family group. I hope I don't come off as brash. I plan on keeping the group as is. I was wondering if anyone is up there so I can say hi. I'm not looking for a buddy to wheel with I have a group planned already.

That's too bad. I wanted to go, but the long day rather took the idea out of me...

Hey Cruiseroutfit, you said that you can get to the top of mineral basin and then go down from there? How do you get there? I would love to try it downhill first.

Its unfortunately not open to public travel, in the cases I've done it, it has been by special invite of Snowbird.

From start to finish it took us 3 hours. That is because I had to drive twice some obstacles due to some inexperienced drivers. No complaints here though. We took in the scenery and planned to take our time and everyone was stoked. Saw a moose too.
