I am finally getting back to Moab for the second time in August! I am very excited to be taking my JK down there for the first time. I will have some people with me that have never been so what trails would you recommend? I have been there once before so I will take them on the ones I know, (Hell's Revenge and Poison Spider) but I am not sure what other trails would be good to have a great experience. My JK has a 2.5 inch lift with 35" tires but it is not locked. It should be fine on most trails but just keep that in mind. Also if anyone else will be down there that weekend feel free to tag along or we can go with you.

Kane Creek and Metal Masher are both very fun trails that are passable with open diffs, just be mindful of any sudden weather changes that could bring heavy rain.

elephant hill is my favorite moab trail. It's about an hour south of moab.

Trip report here:

x2 on elephant hill that trail was a blast. I did it on my JK stock, I did use my rear locker on the first ledge but that was more of trying not to hold up the large group. Everything else was smooth sailing stock on 32's. Don't forget good ole fins and things, its not the most hard core trail but it sure is scenic. 7 mile rim is another fun moderate trail.

Steelbender is LONG. It's not extremely difficult, but there is an obstacle or two that have the potential to freak you out. I'd recommend doing that trail with someone who's gone before. I have zero desire to ever run that trail again.

I highly recommend Strike Ravine too. It's fun, no danger spots, and very scenic. Plus it spits you out at area BFE. if you've never been there, it's a fun are to check out and explore. Olaf has done something amazing there. He bought a bunch of land and set up trails there so they couldn't be closed. Great guy doing great things for our sport.

Here are some fantastic scenic trails. If you're looking to push your truck to the limit, look elsewhere. But a lot of new (and old) wheelers like the scenic stuff just as much. Here are my favorite scenic trails:

One of my favorite non-technical loops is driving Shaefer Trail to potash road all the way down. It takes about 4-5 hours, but it's absolutely fantastic scenery. I recomend driving the paved loop at canyonlands island in the sky, then heading down shaefer switchbacks to start this trail. This is one my family's absolute favorites.

Bull Canyon is very scenic, but not very technical. It drops you off below Gemini Bridges. There's a short 5 min hike to the view under the bridge.

Long Canyon is another scenic way down from Island in the Sky down towards town.

I also recommend hiking delicate arch in Arches NP. It's a great hike to one of Utah's icons.

If you want to swim, check out Ken's Lake for a large man-made reservoir. Also check out mill creek canyon for a nice dip in a pool (though this will probably be VERY busy) http://www.ajroadtrips.com/go/t/utah/moab/millcreek

Do you have the wells 4x4 guide to moab book yet? If not, i highly recommend it. Traildamage.com is another great resource to plan your trip.

Another vote for Elephant Hill. That is my favorite trail. Enough challange for most, and scenery that can't be beat! Camp at Devil's kitchen in spot 3 or 4. They are SO beautiful!

Hey Joe canyon trail is fun. It takes you right beside the river. Not technically difficult by any means, but a fun ride. Be ready for new pin stripping on what ever vehicle you take through it.

Kane Creek is also fun. I went through when there was a fair amount of water so it was more enjoyable.

Steel bender, behind the rocks, and metal masher are all great runs. I did them all in a pretty much stock tacoma on 33's

One of the few trails I have not done was Moab Rim. My buddy absolutely hates the off camber sections so we never ran them.

More info on Strike Ravine please.

You really need a GPS if you haven't been on Strike Ravine, too many forks in the trail at the beginning to get lost on. I've heard they have improved the trail marking but when I did it a few years back it wasn't easy to follow at the beginning. I pulled the track from traildamage.com when I ran it and it was accurate.
