Moab - July 23-24

I am coming from Florida to UT for some military training at Camp Williams. Since it may be a long time before I could afford to drag my YJ to Moab, I got the brilliant idea to take a couple days leave after my course and head to Moab.

I will be released on Wed afternoon, Jul 22nd and head straight to Big Horn Lodge. I did their three night "Jeep & Sleep" deal so I'll be wheelin' on Thurs & Fri.

I'd love to have any knowledgeable locals or regulars join me. I'm president of Matanzas Jeep Club here in St. Augustine and I've been to central Georgia several times so I've done more then just the mud and flat sand we have around home. But, I'm sure it's nothing compared to slickrock.

I'll be in a rented Rubicon and I'll probably get whatever insurance they offer, but my goal is to not destroy a rented Jeep. So, I'd like a challenge but I'm not worried about the extremely hardcore trails (although I wouldn't mind seeing someone put on a show).

If anyone is interested/able to join me, please let me know.
 
:eek2: It's going to be HOT at the end of July, like 105*+. Most Jeepers avoid Moab during the mid-Summer due to the heat, but many have been out there successfully. Take lots of water and make sure the A/C works in that rental. It would be a good idea to take a trip up into the mountains, the La Sals, above Moab and get out of the heat. Good luck with the trip!
 
It's been 100 almost everyday here for the past month + 100% humidity. I plan on staying plenty hydrated for my whole trip out there. I wish I could go in cooler months but this opportunity just came up and the military is flying me to SLC for free so I can afford a few days excursion on my own dime from there.
 
Sounds good. I pm'd you my cell # from FJOA. I probably won't have internet access from July 5th until I get there but let me know if you need my # again.
 
Alright, I've been in Arkansas for a week and I'm headed to Utah in the morning. I get out of class on the 22nd so if I can't get back on the forum between now and then I'll see you there!

I'm in Utah now and my plan for next week is as follows:

22 JUL, Wed: get out of school at noon, take bus to SLC airport & rent a car, head straight to Moab (Big Horn Lodge)

23 JUL: Thurs: pick up rental Jeep and hit recommended trails unless some one can come along that knows the trails

24 JUL, Fri: more trails

25 JUL, Sat: wake up before the crack of dawn to get back to SLC airport for noon flight.
