Moab - May 2011

Went to Moab in early May and just never got around to making a trip report. We were rained on for most of the week and so with the exception of the first day or two we had rain and mud to deal with.

It's amazing how difficult certain obstacles in Moab become with a little rain. Pritchett, Moab Rim, Metal Masher and Cliff hanger were all done in the rain and obstacles that I had ease with in the past were much more difficult. Pritchett was so messy that we decided to turn around at chewy since my buddy david doesn't have a winch on his jeep.

On the flip side it's amazing how trails like Fins and things and Hell's revenge don't seem any different in the rain at all. We took a 2010 F150 with 35's and open diffs all over Hell's Revenge in the pouring rain and it never slipped a tire.

Trails we ran that are in the vid's below.

Poison Spyder Mesa
Golden Spike
Gold Bar Rim
Bull Canyon
Top of the World
Hell’s Revenge
Moab Rim
Fins ‘n Things
Pritchett Canyon (Only up to chewy since it was raining and very wet)
Cliff Hanger

We also did Metal Masher but the constant driving rain kept us from taking video.

I think next time we head to moab we're going to do in in the fall to try and avoid the rain, it really put a damper on the trip but overall it was still a blast.

After building my buddies jeep and seeing how well it did out there I'm anxious to tear into my truck and make some changes. Basically make it lower, longer, wider and flexier without loosing all the things I like about it right now.

Enjoy the vids below. They're all filmed in 1080p and for a sub $300 investment I think it did fairly well.

The quality of the vids is great. Your truck looked like it did just fine and I would be happy with it. looked as good as the Jeep but it is never truly finished.

Thanks! My truck does well, it's just much less stable on off camber sections than I would like. It sits 27" to the frame and with narrow Toy axles that can be a bit scary. Looking to knock it down to about 23" and gain and extra 4" in track width and around 6" in wheelbase plus more flex.

Yeah, I was happy with the Canon camcorder I bought. I was going to cheap out and buy a little Sanyo like the one my buddy used on the trip but I'm glad I didn't since the picture quality is vastly superior on the Canon.
