Moab "Off-Road" Friendly Campgrounds?

Hey guys,

We're planning a trip out to Moab again this year, and we'll be tent camping this time around. I was wondering if any of you could recommend some campgrounds that are "wheeler" friendly and centrally located to the trails? We'll have two fullsize rigs and a Polaris Ranger with us on the trip, 2 trucks on trailers on the ranger in the bed of my truck, so we'll need space for additional parking too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I usually stay at Moab Rim http://www.moab-utah.com/moabrim/

just don't park on the grass and you'll be fine, they have a couple group tent sites as well as some areas for trailer parking.

I've stayed at Moab Valley RV and they have always been great. Some of the staff are fellow offroaders. They have camp sites, cabins and RV spots as well.

Thanks guys. I'll check those out. Anybody stayed at Canyonlands or Up the Creek, by chance? I like their centralized locations, but wasn't sure how friendly/accommodating they are to wheelers.

I've stayed at Canyonlands many years ago. They are fine, but I tent camp so everything along the highways is super noisy with trucks driving through town all night. Pack Creek is further from the road so it's quieter and I sleep better. They also have a big area they let you park your trailers on.

Yeah, good point. I normally stay in cabins or our 5th wheel but this trip we'll be tent camping, so definitely need to take that into account. Pack Creek says it's a mobile home park...is it a campground, or mobile home park?

I've stayed at the Slickrock Campground the last two years. Truck, trailer, few bikes. We are street legal so we leave right from there. There is some overflow along the NW corner for haulers to park that I remember.

I've really liked Canyonlands but haven't stayed there for at least 7-8 years. Great location

X2 for Moab Rim. I normally boondock but I've stayed at that campground a couple times - the owners are nice, the showers are clean, and it's on the hill outside town so it's a little less expensive. There's overflow parking for the tow rigs.

Isn't Pack Creek managed or owned by an RME'r? I liked that place. Plenty of room over there.

On second thought, maybe it was a different one. I don't recall.

There are some permanent residents at Pack Creek in the mobile home part, but they have a campground too. We have stayed at Slickrock, Canyonlands, and one right on the river on the north side of town. They were all nice, good friendly staff, but WAY too noisy for me to sleep in a tent. We have been staying at Pack Creek the last 2 years over UEA and will keep going back. Friendly staff, clean enough showers, and quieter. It's not dead silent, you can still hear the highway, but it doesn't sound like trucks are driving through my tent all night long.

another vote for MoabRim.. we base Bronco Safari there and Redrock does their September event there too. A young couple bought the place and have been working hard on it. Never said a word about our rigs being repaired on site or anything like that. Lots nicer bathrooms and showers than slickrock had last time I stayed there.

stayed at the moab valley Rv, we had about 8 of us there. parking for trailers didn't seem to be a issue for any of us. they didn't want us doing major work there, but did have a buddy who took apart a front hub and do a fix with his wheels studs, impact going, and they didn't say anything. but they also drove past us asking about a T-case we had out on the bed of one of the trucks. I believe they told us or it was in writing that they didn't want us working on the rigs on the grounds. I think they just didn't want us having stuff all ripped apart with parts and tools everywhere.

Thanks guys...I really appreciate the help. I used to organize the Moab UTV Rally out there from 2007-2010, but we based our event out of the Spanish Trail Arena, so OK RV Park, Spanish Trail, and the KOA were the closest options to the event. This trip I'd like to stay ore centralized. I'll check out the ones everyone has mentioned. My Polaris Ranger won't be street legal. Have they loosened up at all in town as far as UTV's from out of state riding on the secondary roads to and from the trailheads, or are they still pretty strict that you need to have everything legal and by the book? During our event we had to have police escorts to and from the trailheads because of so many folks coming into the state for the event from out of town.
