Moab question

So I am taking a group of 16-18 year olds to Moab in June. We thought we would rent a couple of Jeeps for a couple of days and then maybe hit some slot canyons for one day and then mountain bike for a day. There will be 12-15 people total.

I am wondering where all of you Moab experts think would be the best place to stay. I would prefer someplace where we could cook our own meals and someplace with a shower and toilet. I've seen some cabins just as you get into town on the right side but don't know the names of them.

So any suggestions that you think would work?

Thanks Medsker

The riverside oasis campground has cabins and they are right after you cross the bridge into town. I liked them better than the ones at the slickrock campground. Riverside Oasis 1-435-259-3424

ill 2nd that.

you cant go wrong with them, the economy cabin has a queen bed and a set of bunk beds, heat and ac. bathrooms and showers are real close. gated secure campground. all for around 50 bucks a night. if you want tent sites, they are covered and the ground is covered in small pea gravel, much more comfortable to sleep on than the dirt or lumpy grass.

There is no better place to stay, if you have RV's, than the Pack Creek Campground. Cool owner, clean showers, full hook ups, and close to town and Hell's Revenge trail head.

Thanks for all of the ideas guys, I knew RME would come thru for me :D. I'll give these places a call tomorrow and see what their availability is and ask some further questions.

portal campground is also a good one. they don't have any cabins at the moment, but you are basically camping on grass and the hygenic facilities are nice, not nasty like slickrock's.

I've stayed at mob rim. Great place and meets all your requirements.

x2 x2 x2

we stay there every year for EJS, and a couple friend of our last year stayed in one of the cabins. Not to shabby either. Couple beds (I believe 1 king or queen, and 2 bunks) A/C, lil fridge, microwave, TV, bathroom. And this was one of the lil ones too, they have bigger ones as well.

I was going to suggest the KOA at the south end of town but if the cabins in moab rim have microwaves and fridges I would go there....

I do have to say that the bathrooms in KOA are very clean and individuals... not 30 person bays...

I would not recommend the KOA. Stayed there a few years ago over safari, and their customer service was the sh*ts. Plus, the sites are all very close together. If doing tents, Portal all the way. If you really want cabins, Oasis.

x3 on the KOA. Had a friend stay there once and got hassled a lot for petty things. Bad customer service.

FYI, you have to be 25 to rent the local Jeeps and the renter takes full responsibility if anyone younger drives them.

Yea, there is no way I would let them drive the rental Jeeps :D. The adult leaders will be the only ones driving them...and I'm not sure I trust all of them :). As I get the dates and times pinned down I'll post them on here so possibly I can get some of you guys to tag along and help out. I'm thinking we'll have a total of 12-16 people, I can fit 4 in my Jeep with me so I'm thinking I'll need to rent at least 3 Jeeps.

Depending on dates, I can probably help.

Awesome, our tentative dates are June 10-14 but I'm not sure which days are the "wheeling" days, I'm going to to try and get Jeeps for either the 11th and 12th or the 12th and 13th I think but I have to talk to the guys planning the thing first. Whose the best to rent from? Cliffhanger?

vote for cliffhanger

Cliffhanger would be ok if you want TJ Rubis, if you want JK Rubis than go with Farabees, if you don't want Rubi you can go through Canyonlands Jeep.

As of last week Cliffhanger has TJ and JK rubicons. 4-doors as well. I have known one of the owners for 9 years, and talked to his parter from time to time. Stand up guys.

Well I've pinned down the final plans. We've rented two 4-door Rubicons and one 2-door Rubicon from Cliffhanger for the 11th of June. I figure we'll start on something easier like Fins and Things first, move to Hell's Revenge and then see what time permits for after that (Moab Rim or PSM?). Anyone that wants to join us is welcome too I just ask that you tone down your language etc. since this is a church group. We will be meeting at Cliffhanger at 7:30 and taking off from there. We plan on eating lunch on the trail.
