sounds awesome to me. it is a private land owner looking to use his land as he sees fit....and I couldn't be happier!!!

please explain your mixed feelings because there is nothing but a positive here...

It's too hard for most people to get up there. No way you are getting a normal support rig up that either. If you really break your rig, you are screwed.

very true. the BFG truck will not be making it either. looks like everyone will have to employ unimogs or pinzgauers for support rigs :)

Yeah, it would make it hard for spectators to get up there. That's usually where the money comes from to pay for these events.

Any other ideas?

That's what the chair lift is for... he owns that too.

Longbeds with a locker will make it up the rim (won't they?--Where's a Detroit for the 14 bolt--I'll try it). Trailer, no.....truck, probably.

Well to begin, I agree, its his land and he has a worthy cause in mind. But, I don't know how its gonna be on compitition day when the entire Moab Rim Trail is full of people going to and from the comp. Seems like a trail to stay away from on comp weekends which happen to be on traditionally busy weekends down there.

I thought about that too, sure its a great way to ferry people to the top, but there isn't a whole lot of parking spots down below. And if its anything like UROC, you need tons of parking for spectators.

My only hard feelings about it are the impact it will have on the Moab Rim Trail (Which I love) and the way it represents us to other users (hikers, bikers, etc)...

Using the Moab Rim Trail as its access could turn out to be rather difficult... Even one truck comeing down at the same time as a few coming up can turn into a pain in the butt depending on where it occurs. When we ran the trail last week, it took a very short time to get to the top with 5-6 rigs and back down, the part that took the longest was waiting for a small group that was ahead of us comining down while we were heading up, and stopping to allow mountain bikers and hikers to pass us or be passed (and there were quite a few hikers on the trail that day)..

Seems like an overall good idea, just a logistics nightmare... Look at Patato Salad during EJS...two years ago, girl was injured when the Sniper rolled... it was very difficult to get EMS in and back out due to the amount of cars and people blocking the way.... What are they doing to provide medical service to injured persons? The tram is not a viable solution...IMHO

Really? It can haul 100+ comp rigs along with at least that many support vehicles up...

I guess I need to look at the tram closer, I thought it was just a chairlift...:D

the tram would be the best way of getting people to and from. the trail obviously would be the absolute worst way of getting 5-10 thousand spectators up there. they would probably close the trail to limited personel during the comp.

It is a charilift, not a tram,. and a slowmoving one at that. They promoter would also have to provide bathroom facilities to everyone up on top... and for that many people, that means alot of porta-johns... Lets put it this way... it would take along time to get everyone up there and down, what will you do about lunch?
