Dual cases and 4.7 gear are NOT the same! I personally would never do just a single 4.7 unless I was limited with a short wheelbase and was running 33s or smaller. (i think advanced adapters make a 5.0-1 gears set..) Any thing else I would do a simple 2.28x2.28 dual set up. I currently have dual ultimate crawler and I defiantly use every gear it has and love it but if I didnt have it, and was on a budget, id go with the 2.28x2.28.. That ends up right around 5.2 which is perfect for trails with 4:10s and 35s or 37s

In a few years when my nephew is a bit older and the rig is hammered... I really would like to transfer the parts into another rig... Maybe a willys? I really wouldn't mind attempting a light weight fj40 build? Build my own tube and frame? if that happeneds I'll be looking into different tcase options possibly an AA 5.0 kit, loose the dual case and keep the disco?

I guess I consider duals a form of "t-case gearing". I think either t-case gears or duals should be the first mod after sliders on a yota. To me it's 6's, whether you go with duals or 4.7's; it's the same effect. While an ultimate dual setup is cool to brag about, I only used it about 3 times in my life, and it wasn't necessary. I wouldn't do ultimate duals again.
I agree with you for 99% of trails. I have found that there are some obstacles and trails that dual ultimate comes in handy, rocker knocker, Coyote Canyon, a section of green day and the hammers trails. I mention it for any lurkers in the thread. I think most of the posters already have experience with absurdly low gearing. My biggest complaint with Duals is the drivetrain slop. It's splitting hairs, but next go around will be a slush box instead.

good luck tomorrow robby ! not to bring up the gear argument again but im bringing it up again..with ultimate dual set up you dont really do it to use 250:1 or whatever you end up with . its for the gear in between gears... if you just have 4.7 t case and 4.10 r&p you have pretty much 1 maybe 2 gears for climbing.

robby is that how you look at ultimate duals? or do you spend alot of time driving around in low low first?

My comment about dual ultimates was meant in the context of running 5.29s. I van definitely see the advantage wirlth 4.10s

i have 410s and a dual ultimate, i used to have 410s and dual, 2.28x2.28 when i just had the 2.28x2.28 i never really cared for anything lower gearing before, but now that i have it, it is very nice. also the fact that before i had 3x as much hp might have helped.. if i had to choose i would do a dual 2.28x2.28 set up than a single 4.7

Robby how fast can you go with 4.10s and 37s with one case in low (2.28) that's why I went duals . With one 4.7 case and big tires with a 22re your options are gutless in high or slow and boring. Sometimes you can't go fast and some times you cant stand to go slow.. That's why this rig is sweet.. Although I have a feeling it will see a lot of fast..

Robby is nitrous against the rules if not you should borrow my stuff for tomorrow
