There is nothing like it. It's nice and clear, and crisp and clean. I should have been born here! I need to take a freakin' painting trip and capture some of this.

That is all.

Damn you Tacoma. Now I want to bail on work today, and head out.

I just might leave at lunch, the gray cubicle walls are closing in on me. Feeling claustrophobic.;)

Today I went south on highway 6 to 174 by the IPP power plant and headed north to Desert mountain and on north thinking I would go to the Pony express trail from the south.:) All was good until Erickson pass about 40 miles north. at 6200 feet the snow is still melting and the north side of the pass is still muddy and has about a foot of snow still on the road:ugh: Not good with 1/4" of tread on generic AT tires, especially when I had to back uphill in the mud for 25 yards to get to a place to turn around:(

hahah yeah, the PET when it's muddy can be disastrous. I was not too far down a side route when I got stuck in ankle-deep mud/water and spun all 4 tires at idle... with open diffs...

I am in NY right now and watched the sun set over the Atlantic a little while ago, and I have to say... it was alright, but these people don't know what a sunset is.

The west just rules, period.

I don't know how you do it....I've never slid off the road or gotten stuck in the oil field....EVER! And I drive a long bed quad cab duramax with little tiny wimpy highway tires.

Tacoma...you're doing it wrong!

Here is another pic just to keep the theme going.

My duramax broke down on the way to work last summer. I had to get a rental in Heber so they brought me an '07 F-150...black, quad cab, short bed, iPod jack and 5k miles. Of course I got full insurance on the damn thing. I drove it to work and about 200 miles worth of dirt roads which I would describe as perfect stages for a Rally. The truck made it to the work site but not all the way back to heber without incident. Those factory tires cannot handle drifting for hours on end.

I ended up with both rear tires flat and a hell of a desert pinstriping job on the pretty black paint. I called the rental place and told them I got a couple of flats...he said "That's fine, we'll take care of them! Thanks for renting from __________" I transferred my gear back to my d-max and drove home.

I tell you though...that F-150 was amazing...give me a full set of BFG T/As and another couple in the bed and I will baja that thing! The torque matched with how well that tranny bit was nothing short of awe insipring. The steering was perfect with the right amount of feedback but the throttle was like a surgical instrument...I will remember that day with fond memories. Oh...and the flats were center tread, none of that sidewall sissy stuff! Dammit...off topic again...I better go through my pictures and break out the good stuff I took a while back...

Sunrise outside of Wamsutter Wyoming on the Baggs highway...2005ish...crap picture but I remember it as if it were yesterday...AMAZING!!

Here is one at about 3am while I was going around strawberry reservoir on the way home from work. I cranked it up with photoshop so you can see the mountains and stars....

There are some absolutely STUNNING views out on the oil fields..... I can't really say I'm that upset to be working outside of Vernal. I love it up there!!!

Hey Spence, the road from 328 is freakin' awesome for high-speed drifting. There's a sweet little chicane near that yellow pipe fence, take it around 60-65 or so and you can 'wiggle' through all three turns, neat as a pin!

Are you guy son the east or west side of the canyon? I did 3 wells on the west side and another 2 on the east side...all 5 of them were right on the rim.

I'm not really sure where we are relative to the canyon, to be honest... We are probably nearly due east of Ouray about 6mi, on the main dirt road out there... and probably just about due WEST of Fantasy Canyon.... when I get back home I can Google Earth it and send you the details. It's not a bad spot to be... about 35mi trip to the west side of Vernal from there.
