My $1000 Crawler Hauler Build

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Now what do you need to do to get it legal? Does someone have to inspect it? What about a title?

Now what do you need to do to get it legal? Does someone have to inspect it? What about a title?

I am planning on getting it Titled and Registered, I talked to Boyd at Pard's (they used to make alot of trailers) he said, that after the trailer is done you take it to the High Patrol and have them inspect it, the trailer must have the following:
proper rear and clearence lighting(I've got the reqired ones at each corner and am planning on adding more at the fenders),
safty chains, fenders, secured decking, break-a-way brakes (got the pull switch $9 and I have a battery), a coupler pin, and reflective tape along the sides (I have some leftover from overhaulin' another trailer)
I'd bet they won't like my rear set of tires (<2/32")

So once I've passed the safty inspection they give me a slip and I take that and the trailer to the DMV they inspect the trailer for a vin and require a "bill of materials" including all materials and there $cost$ (so they can come up with a base to charge you sales/property tax) some double sales tax paying here, but whatever (I don't have to include my labor and between us the whole trailed is made from "scrap")
After they have looked it over they issue a VIN plate, after affixing the plate the trailer can be Titled , and then registered normally.

I know many people don't register there trailers, I never registered Bubba, but they say it makes them easier to recover if stolen, Plus just for peace of mind I want to get it registered, I don't want some mean cop to impound it or give me a ticket or whatever.

got the backs on, I just cut the sheet close to size, tacked it on then cut it with the p-cutter and finally used the grinder to get the edges just right.

got the thing wired, ran all the wire inside the tubing, where it was exposed I covered it with corregated tubing (crinkle wrap), soldered and heat shrunk all connections, welded the ground eyelets to the frame, and where the wiring passed thru the tube wall I wraped the corregated tubing with some heater hose rubber as a gromet.

I don't want to have to mess with this wiring agin........

ever!

Here it is painted and decked

I still need to treat the decking but other that that it's done
total cost was about $1200 not bad for a brand new trailer.

I've towed it around quite a bit and suprizingly it allmost never drags and when it does I lands right on the skids I made :D

I'm glad I added the back-up lights, makes backing down my long, dark, one-lane driveway easy.

Towed it on the freeway tonight to Bountiful with my zuk on
tows real nice! :D

stops on a dime.

I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out but, if I did it agin I'd make it 20' and make the dove a little less steep, allthough it sure makes loading the zuk easy, It just drives right on, no ramps needed and no tire spinning.

Looks really nice!

I've been thinking of adding a Dovetail to my trailer. I've been hauling allot of smaller (lower) cars lately and it gets a bit to close to the bottom once in a while.

What did you use for paint?

Thank you

I used 2 15oz cans of Rustoleum Professional primer and 5 of the same in gloss black, wheels took 1/2 can of Rustoleum Professional in their "Aluminum 7475" color, I have been way imppresed with the Rustoleum Pro line of paint, better make sure you have a respirator with good filter cartriges though this stuff will knock you on your ass
paint turned out ok I'd like to give it one more coat though.

Nice job!

Thank you.

I towed the trailer from SLC to Price and back this weekend and I am very happy with it. Tracks very well, had no problems through the twisys over Soldier Summit, It deffinately tows better than my Big-Bubba ever did,
I think it might be the nicest towing trailer I've ever pulled, which I found somewhat suprizing, I am VERY HAPPY! :D
