$130K worth of cummins turbo diesel, allison transmission, front and rear dana 60's with E lockers. It was purchased to commute to the new compressor station we're building.

I need to work there!

Badass!! There's a UP Communications guy here in Grand Junction that has something very similar... makes me jealous each time I see it.

next year I am going to go to work with him in the middle of winter so I get to drive this thing. Sad that I am looking forward to something so far away.

Borrow it for when you go to Greenland

That would be cool, and probably really cheap to get it over there. I applied for a grant to get the funding for greenland, but it just fell through yesterday. I will have to keep saving. This summer was the goal, but I am going to be a little short. I think some great research could be done there though(and fun).

that is probably more comfortable than the old '50s Bombadier I rode in last year in northern Canada! (but I am excited to go ride travel in the old beast again later this month!)

why is everyone so much cooler than me? I never even have been in one of these let alone driven one around.

houndoc, what are you going to northern canada for and what part?

It's cool but I am a little surprised to see Dana 60s in it. I figured those things would need heavier axles, like the ZFs, to push that much snow. I guess its about keeping the weight down to keep the machine on top of the snow? I learn something everyday.

I help as a trail veterinarian at a sled dog race, the Hudson Bay Quest. It starts in Churchill, Manitoba and runs north. Previous years it ended in the community of Arviat, Nunavut (250 miles from Churchill) but this year I understand it will start and end in Churchill.

I will be stationed at a check point that will be the turn around, roughly 130 miles or so from Churchill (same place last year we got stranded in a blizzard.)

Here is a link to a write up from last year's trip.
