My new ride.....

ok, so it's really my wife's new ride, but I'll have some fun with it too.

We just picked up Cascadia's '92 4runner w/ the 22re engine, completely stock besides 33's which I'll be swapping for some 32's soon. I don't mind the size but these tires are SO LOUD! Anybody else have any experience w/ yokohama geolandar i/t's? I figure that while I'm swapping, I'll go down a size to help give the truck a little more zip around town.

My wife has been looking at some suv's to replace our Suzuki Grand Vitara (which has been a great rig!) because the G-vit is pretty small and we've got kid #2 on the way. She's been looking at $10k+ SUV's, which is what you have to pay to get something any bigger than the G-vit that still gets around 20 mpg's. I told her that if she'll "settle" for this 4runner, I'll use all of the funds that come from selling my 'runner for some bills instead of taking half of the $$ for my next rig.

So, I'll be out of a rig for awhile but I plan on swapping the t case out of my '87 runner w/ the 4.7 gearing, and either buying a spartan locker for the '92 or swapping out the rear 3rd from my '87 (w/ a detroit in it) so it will be a stock '92 runner around town but when it 4low, it will be fairly capable. I had a '91 pickup w/ 4.7 gearing and a lockright and 31's and it went EVERYWHERE! I'll probably build bumpers and sliders for this one too to avoid body damage when we go play in it.

At first my wife agreed to "settle" on this after she test drove it and liked it a little, but now that she drove it around a bit she LOVES it. I just hope that w/ a little bigger rig w/ 4 doors that's not a loud smelly v8, she'll want to go camping and wheeling a bit more haha.

I kind of want to buy her that $10k SUV now so that I can have this 4runner for myself!

well, I have to be kinda stealthy about the "build" because I told my wife I wouldn't "build" it. haha. She's ok with the t case and locker because it won't look any different. I'll have to sneak in the bumpers, sliders, and other add-ons while I'm also adding comfy things on the inside for her. It will be a slow build and won't be super built, but it will be fun, and most importantly, I think we'll use it more for outdoor activities, even if we're not "wheeling" all the time.

that was the greatest rig ever. Everyone has a rig that they never should have sold. I vote that one as the rig you shouldn't have sold. I think this will be a sweet little rig for you.

I do know that I'll be taking the front bumper off of my '87 and using it. It's pretty stout, bolt-on, and is just installed over the stock bumper. I'm hoping that I can make it fit w/ minor brackets fabbed onto the '92 to bolt it on. I'd like to make a rear bumper w/ a receiver hitch eventually and I'm thinking some stout square tube sliders to blend in w/ the body a bit. No need for a step because the 'runner won't be very tall.

That was definitely an awesome rig! BUT, my white '86 that I did the SAS on I think is the one that I shouldn't have sold. That thing just performed. It was constantly surprising me and spectators! I got lucky w/ how well the suspension worked because it was all thrown together in my shop w/ little instruction haha.

yes, my white one was the auto, but I sold it and bought the red v8. I had the pickup while the white one was in my shop under the knife.

this white one. I miss it! Although I can totally see myself loving this '92 just as much w/ the few mods that I want to do! The 4 doors and a/c that works great will be a huge factor in us using it a lot more!
