We've all heard about it as rumor and tin-foil hat talk... well, the ground work is already under way. Rep. Kaptur makes some very good points that we should all be thinking about, IMO.

This should piss some of you off...

Though I have not watched the video above, I did search and come up with some content to digest:

http://spp.gov/myths_vs_facts.asp

I do not like the way it is cloaked to be something that we and congress have no input on. Though I was just a little tot when NAFTA came about, I can still remember the hype and frenzy that it caused.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention, I would have not known to research it otherwise.

The cost of doing business in the US is what is pushing business out of the country. EPA being strict is also a huge factor. If y ou want business' to stay in the country, you can't push them around and give them huge fines for conducting business or they will leave. It's also another reason why I have no shop in WA - the state of WA is very greedy and taxes the hell out of business'. I'm really surprised that there are any left in this state, seriously. I remember a few years ago Boeing was goign to move out of Seattle to Pheonix? The state was up in arms over it, knowing they would bankrupt Seattle and probably WA state if they left. The state must have given them a great deal, because to my knowledge they stayed.

IMO they (the US) needs to become more business friendly and start taxing imports. That way business will want to stay here and other countries will have to pay more to get the US business. Granted, I realize this creates a global economy, but if you're going to ***** about business' leaving....

My exact reaction. It's a tough reality and something needs to be done. Call me old fashion but I like way that our country is supposed to be, not how it is and where it's going. We would be a much more progressive nation if we could cut out all the BS from over seas.

I'm OK with countries having their own cultures and living the way they want to live. I'm not OK with them forcing their junk down our throats and stealing away our jobs. But it's not really their fault, it's our government and the way we allow big business to run. I believe in a free market, but are the big national and international business playing by the rules? I think not. They are taking advantage just like illegal immigrants are taking advantage of our "American Rights".

If you have no conscience, you can make a good living...

If this is all been a part of Bush's tyranny shouldn't the presidential canidates be talking about there stand point on it?

Ron Paul was the only person that I know that has voiced against it. But then again, I haven't been following much of anything lately.

Isn't complaining about other countries forcing their ways down our throats kind of like the pot calling the kettle black? We've been force feeding the world Americanism for the last 50 years.

But if there is some validity to her claims, it's definitely something that won't benefit American workers or the American economy.

Unfortunately, yes. Not by my choice though.

Your government needs you for your tax dollars...other than that you are a nuisance and a bother to them. Your free thinking and open discussion is being monitored and measured for threat level. I don't like how my government is treating me and I don't like what they have planned for me as a US citizen.

And if you think a change in the whitehouse will change anything than you need to roll up that tin foil hat and smoke it because there isn't anything you can do about anything because you aren't part of their elite club.

We can't blame our govt. entirely. While I agree they do play a big role, almost everyone of us as consumers are at fault as well.

As consumers most people demand low prices and with American wages where they are, companies are forced to go overseas as well. Think about it, We are so high on the wage scale compared to the world, and with our desire to get a bargain, consume and throw away, we create our own bed. Few people will actually take a stand and do what's best for the Community. If they did, like they used to back in the day we could be in a better boat.

The govt. can regulate and tax imports as they should, but it is still up to us to shop conciously. I don't want to turn this against Wal-Mart, but we all know them (and many other large chains are just as guilty) they outsource somewhere along 90% of all their "house brands" to China in order to offer their low prices. They demand vendors give them low prices or don't sell in their stores....so vendors get forced to outsource their production to China. And yet, most everyone still shops at Wal-Mart. Sure they are employing a large quantity of people, but those wages are peanuts compared to alot of the jobs that are lost in the process.

So, as long as we are on the high end of wages/standard of living and the economy gets more and more global, get ready to take slides downwards.....eventually it will even out, I just think Americans will be the ones to take the biggest hit

Consumer demand is only part of the equation though... big corporations don't give a crap about the quality of a product so as long as we keep buying. And so there is an incentive for them to outsource to make more money and roll around in it. So you can't say that consumer demand is completely at fault, even though we are part of it.

The bottom line is always $$.

The govt can do what ever they want. It is now illegal to drive without a seat belt, in most places wihtout a helmet, in most places drugs are bad, em kay. If the govt wants to they can make it so outsourcing is more difficult and expensive than keeping their plants open on US soil. Unfortunately they've made it the opposite, so companies leave the US for cheaper materials AND labor AND facilities.

But it does create a global economy. Just a few days ago I sold some ARB lockers to a guy in Australia because they were cheaper here in the states even with the high shipping costs. So that tells me it's not just US that is being hit. I sell a lot to Canada because of it, too. I'm sure if we stopped importing products and outsourcing labor, the global economy would suffer. If that happened, what would they do? Bomb us/go to war? Right now we have a lot of friendships going because of the trade system. Take that away, and possibly their lively hood and there is no telling what they might do. I think over all globaly things are pretty quiet.

That dude needs to shop around... he's paying shipping two directions, though I guess he's taking advantage of the crappy US dollar.

I just go some new pricing on some products I get from Aussie... cost went from $1400 to $2350 overnight  Won't be selling too many of those!
