Nebo Loop/Santaquin Canyon

I found myself in Mt Pleasant this afternoon so I decided to come home via Nebo Loop/Santaquin Canyon. Shortly after I hit asphalt coming down Santaquin Canyon there were some rocks on the road and a sign that might have said something about snow/debris and may have even had the word "closed"

I'm not sure on that one.... :squint: a bit farther down I found the snow/trees/rocks that the sign was talking about, it was nothing major with a nice path through it. Well after that I found out why the road was closed today, it was for a pretty good reason ;)

I looked the bridge over and deemed it safe for my truck, but quickly found out that the gate below it was closed :(

I had talked to someone at Payson Lake who said the road had some trees on it but that he had driven it the day before with no problem.

My guess is that they tried to cross that bridge which is made up of rail road ties and asphalt with some piece of equipment destine to clean up the snow/rocks/trees. Ummm... ooops?

Sorry I didn't take more pics, my camera battery was all but dead.

You tend to forget how awesome the Nebo Loop is when you don't go for years....

Hope they are planning on fixing it...

GPS Coordinate?

I didn't have it with me :( I have never been down that canyon before so I don't know how many gates they have, but the bridge is 1/4 ~ 1/2 mile above the highest steel gate.

I just talked to a friend who was working for Santaquin City this spring.... apparently mother nature is responsible for the bridge damage. The Forest Service told Santaquin that if they (Santaquin) would clean up a large rock slide below the bridge the FS would fix the bridge.... but that it would take them (if he recalls correct) up to 12 weeks to get the material. Twelve weeks from when I do not know.

Following the follow up, went up there again today.... it's fixed up nice, although it's not as  as it used to be.
