My air inpact rated at 450 lb ft just will not budge the nut on my front axle unit bearing... its suppose to only be on at 175 lb fts and so I just need one for a few hours if anyone has one... I bought a 24 inch breaker bar that I have not had a chance to use yet.

I need to replace the unit bearing asap before it explodes on me...

Pm me if you have one.

Try to tighten then loosin it and then repeat several times before giving up. This has worked for me about 10,000 times at work on stuborn Nut and bolts that were put on by someone with a weaker gun then mine. They are most likely rusted on there a little bit i would guess which is why your gun wont break it free. The tightening/loosing action will break alot of it the rust and warm up the nut which will also break it free easier. Another tip (not aplicable to your problem) when tring to loosing a siezed bolt, smack the head of the bolt with a hammer, it will break up the rusted together treads.

impact guns take about 10 full seconds to deliver max tq btw... the back and forth stuff is usually just a waste of air, just wait longer. And if your gun isnt a twin anvil type then it's useless to begin with.

the one I have is a twin anvil and I cranked up the air to 125 psi instead of the usual 90 psi and I did the back and forth a few times... I also let it sit for about 20 seconds just hammering at it... The heat on the bolt also didn't work. I am going to hit it THursday with that breaker bar and see what I can do. If not Harbor freight has a 1000 ft lb twin anvil for around $100

What gun do you have? also it's the flow that determines how hard it hits, not the tank pressure, big difference.

I have an impact gun you are welcome to come get. Dont know how many pounds it delivers. If I get a minute I can look it up. Dont know that its any better than what you have though

What kind of torch are you using to put heat into it, propane or oxy/acetylene? If my impact won't get it, the torch is usually a sure bet.

the impact I have is the Harbor freight earthquake which I see is listed as a 700ft lb and it just sits and does nothing. I am using 1/2 inch air hose at 125 psi and the tank is a 35 gallon tank. I have a propane torch. Thursday morning I will be giving the breaker bar a shot! The rims I have have a 4 inch opening so I can leave the tire on and leave it on the ground so the shaft is not going to move.

I had a pinion nut that wouldn't let go once that I couldn't get to hold still so I used my dremel to cut a slot in the nut and cold chiseled it off, that did the trick.
I've done this several time on vw rear axels. Broke a snap on breaker bar 3/4. I had a three foot pipe on the end of it as a cheater bar. Grandpa wasn't happy.
