so i'm out playing in about 2' - 2 1/2' of snow in a parking lot, heading up a sweep hill from the lower p-lot to the upper one....i almost made it out every time but would lose speed right at the top....so i back down for one more try to get outta there, and notice my dash lights are fading in and out...so i new something was up with my alternater....oh well...so i floor it and almost make it up and out when i notice alot of green snow....ooops...

the belt broke in half and the radiator fluids got abit warm :D ...no biggy....gotta find a rig big enough to pull me up the rest of the hill, in the 2'+ snow....so my call naturally went staight to Spunky(for thoe of you that know him)...

got it home, and went through the hassle of finding the right belt size for my setup (RRO's GM alt swap)...

so that all is fine and dandy and running great until last night i am plowing through drifts again up the street, and the belt actually slipped off....not break, or anythhing like that...it just slipped off....we got it as tight as we could cause it squeals like a mother....WTF????

so we left it there...how does a belt just come off? when tightened as much as possible?....and why is it always sqealing? i'm so sick this!!! :mad2:

and does anyone know the exact belt size that is recomended? i think i'm running 15350? something like that.....

Are the pully's lined up?

Sounds like they are not.

i think that the alt. is slightly, slightly off....abit too forward....how do i get it to go back like a fraction of an inch?

Sounds alot like a problem I had on my sami. I hope not. With the belt off wiggle the crank pully to make sure it is tight. If loose you are screwed.

I have the correct size belt for use with that kit written down under the hood of mine. I will go check later today.

i'll go tighten everything i can down.....

that'd be great if you could find the recommended size....i'm running a 15355(was running 15350 when all this $h!t happened) right now and it donesn't squeak at all....so, i think i may have solved it somewhat for now.....it's too cold to work on it when there's no available shop space to use :( ....

thanks

if it is off at all then that will cause it to come off, what you need to do is find a way to add a spacer of some type in there, I dont know how the alt mounts in the sami so I cant recommend anything, maybe washer or a small slice of tubing?

My Camaro did the same thing, especially when you got into the revs. One of the pulleys (PS Pulley??) was bent & would catch the belt & toss it.

If you're pulleys are out of alignment, that's probably what's causing it. The right size belt has little to do with it. If it fits, it fits. Shim your alternator. ;)

shim it eh?....ever delt with anything from RRO? didn't think so :D ...easier said than done Greg....i agree with you though, and thought of that when i was checking it out last night before i decided to ditch it till today...but with their bracket....which doesn't line up 100% in the first place is hard to deal with....another unsatisfied customer GLENN!!!!!!!! :mad2:

yeah....i got out of my zuk and looked around at our predicament(sp?).....and thought, well i could get my YukonXL, but it'd be pushing 1'+ of snow with the bumper and grill, while trying to get me afew more feet up this hill....and it has poor traction anyways....hhhhmmm...i thought somemore...maybe call wort and get his truck out here....no, his would'nt find traction either.....who's got enough clearance that the deep snow is no bother, enough power, and great traction? so I called to see what Spunk was up too....as luck would have it he was out looking for stupid stranded people...much like me! :D

he was on the phone the entire time driving and shifting one handed like it ain't no thang :) ....thanks Spunk!

If you have had your alternator for a while I am betting that is probably the source of you problem. Maybe you didn't tighten you adjusting bolt all the way.
