I am going to be buying new tires in the morning for the XJ and im looking for opinions on tires. I have found 2 that i like and they are just with in a few bucks of each other so its really a toss up. Its between Goodyear Wrangler MT/R Kevlar or the KM2's. The tires will be used for various things from mild rock crawling to lots of use in the mountains and various trails to freeway use as this is our daily driver. So what ones are better?

I was considering both of those until I went into a big o and was shown the big o X/T they were a bit cheeper and seem to be holding up really well.

The only thing I didn't like about them was it was a pain in the a$$ to do donuts in the snow because they would grip reall well. I'm currently at 20000 miles on them and they have bairly warn down. That's on and offroad use.

I think when I got them it was ~$900 for a set of 4 33/12.5 R15 tires. But they did have to be ordered in (they were there the fallowing day)

Sorry for the sidetrack.

I run the KMII's at the moment, but will probably be going back to the MTR. Have you priced them? The MTR's seem to be going for much less than the BFG's, which is the main reason I'll be switching. You really can't go wrong with either tire though.

I have 2 sets of km2 31's on tacoma dd, 35's on my runner... I really like them, but I don't think you can go wrong with the mtr's. Either way the cheapest way to get them is find a internet price + shipping to discount tire and they'll match it. I used

I have the KM2's and they crawl great, but the the side walls don't hold up to any desert type riding, I have pulled sticks out of my side walls....

I've never liked the MTRs, but the Kevlar may be better. Of those two I'd go BFG for sure, even if they did cost a few bucks more.

I have ran 3 sets of km2s it multiple sizes, and ply ratings. And I have been happy with all of them. I have heard lots of good about the MTRs as well, and have been wanting to try them, but haven't yet.

So what's the deal with Kevlar? Does it actually make a difference in sidewall strength or is more a marketing stunt?

I still need new tires for my truck, fighting the desire go to a bigger size and have to regear or just stay where I'm at and live with it.

I haven't killed any sidewalls on mine yet. Rolled one off the bead once, though. The longer I have them, the more I like them. I didn't have any issues with the older MT/Rs and ran two sets of them on my XJ. I have been pretty concerned as I came from a Creepy Crawler that I NEVER worried about the sidewalls on to a more street oriented tire. I don't go ramming the sidewalls into stuff, but have done a few miles on some pretty tight, willowy washes with the Kevlars. It was impossible to keep the sidewalls out of the stumpy, sidewall killing willows. There were quite a few marks on the sidewalls and a couple of scratches, but for the most part, the tires took it like a champ.

Just stay where you're at with size.

I was comparing the same two and was about ready to spring for the Kevlar MTRs when I found too good of a deal on some Maxxis Treps. Love them.

i have kevlars and i'm very impressed with them. straight comparison to the old mtr and they are miles ahead. i have kevlars and both my dad and brother have originals. in moab i have walked right up stuff they struggle on. our jeeps are comparably built too.

I think you would be happy with either
the only possible downfall to the Kevlar's is repairing them stories going both ways on if they can or can not repair them

Well i had thought i had my mind made up by going with the kevlars but after they got one mounted up i couldn't stomach the way they looked on my Jeep, so i ended up going with the KM2:cool:

i think the KM2's are a better tire anyways simply because i think they get better all around traction, especially in the rocks

we definitely need some pics. both are excellent tires. I'm a KM2 fan myself, but if KM2s weren't available, I'd be using the MTR Kevlars. Regarding which one is cheaper, it depends on the size. The KM2's are cheaper in some sizes, where the Kevlars are cheaper in other sizes.
