Ok, so this is a movie from...1997. It's a David Mamet film. If you know, then you can skip this paragraph. If you don't, Mamet films usually feature snappy dialogue and a kind of.. oblique feeling, everything is close, like a play. Casts are small, action is limited in its scope, small, tight movies. I happen to like that, YMMV.

Anyway, some of the Mamet regulars are in this: Rebecca Pidgeon and Ricky Jay... Steve Martin is also a guest. :D Story is: Guy invents "The Process", a method of controlling markets. Not so important what it is, but the film is: people trying to get it. Who are they? And how do you find out? Inventor Guy gets set up, and has to solve the mystery. There are shades of Kafka's "The Trial"-- why is this guy going through this, and who is doing it to him?, and generally it moves along pretty well. However, I found the ending to be a little too neat, and the explication leading up to it a bit murky... so I'm going to have to say this isn't my favorite Mamet film.... but it's a good watch and perfect for say, a Sunday afternoon.

If you want to sample some other Mamet stuff, might I recommend the following? : Heist, Spartan, Glengarry Glen Ross, or Redbelt.

I'll give it 88pts for Mamet fans, 80 on the merits. Solid film, with some flawed execution.
