New body for a CJ5

So I bought this old POS Jeep. 1972 CJ5. The body is 98% toast. I was worried it might blow off the frame when I towed it home. :ugh: For this thread, I would like to concentrate on ideas for fabricating a new body. This Jeep will stay street legal, so keep that in mind. The upper cowl is the only part of this tub worth salvaging.

The easiest thing to do would be to buy someones used tub and swap it on.
Problem with that is, I want a little more length. I am starting to lean toward a small diameter tube skeleton, skinned with sheet metal as to somewhat resemble a CJ/YJ tub. This would allow me to place the rear axle as far back as I wanted and allow a lot more space inside. For the inner fenders I would just use those summit tub panels for the hot rods.

You know you wish you had a sexy Jeep like this.

Got some work ahead of ya there....
Think of it like this.... a title, VIN number, and a narrow track D44.
I plan on fabricating a new frame first thing. Coils all around and 35" tires.

A friend of mine has a 5 with a brand new fiberglass pile next to it :ugh: I don't know what he plans to do with the old body but I can ask if you want.

HAHAHAHA!!! $1200 bucks.... HAHAHAHAHA
I'm really contemplating using small diameter tube and skinning it to somewhat resemble a CJ7 tub.

why not use square tubing as the frame? I'll let you use my bender if you buy the die set :D

I think the square would be easier to keep square/plumb/level, over using round.

GOOD LORD!! Jeremy thats looking a little rough at best, Start with jeepdoc.com (krage motorsports) for the body parts, brand new fiber runs around 1500, and steal around 2300. Also, if you want to do some axle swapping, we have a set of narrow 44 and 27 axles here with 5.13 gears. both offset to the passenger side. Let me know.
