SO I needed some more room in my wheels wells according to my tires and plan on cutting them out. I am putting on removeable tires fenders and my wife think they look hideous however they are one of my only options since I don't like the looks and $$ of the cutout flares. What do you think?

Can you set them higher so you have a chance of not getting mud/snow packed in them? I know they are removable but how are those going to work when you want to drive it on the street during a snow day?

If side lugs count as tread... those still arent legal...
Just the mock up in the pic, I have since moved them out to cover the lugs.

Never thought of that. I wanted to keep them tight to the tire so they would be less noticeable. The truck has never seen snow but if it did it could get messy.

I am a fan, what did you use?

I eventually will need to go this route on my toyota.
They are 9x48 trailer fenders. I would have bought the 10x48 but they didn't have any in stock. i just cut the inner round edge off and they weren't wide enough so I had to cut slits in them all the way around and bend it and reweld them. I still am not convinced that I like them, still trying to figure out another option.

I would like to see you cut the finders with that chainsaw? :D
That saw couldn't cut my thumb off if I tried.

I had planned to do this at a couple of points in the past for various vehicles. One thing I'd looked at doing was buying a couple of old 14-15" wide swampers with ripped sidewalls, and mounting some tread sections onto the fenders, so they'd look like tires... kind of.
I know that's kind of cheesy, but it might look better than just the fenders... or not.

Thats good. Might do it if I keep them.

Hate to say it, but I think its time for option #2?

If you do keep them, make them "quick release" for street driving and take em off on the rocks?

I used some old gumbo mudders for mudflaps in the past. I still got pulled over, cuz they looked just like my tires. They always let me go, but werent amused.

Just a thought why dont you make a tube fender off the bumper and roll it under?? Then attach a section of sheet metal?? It would also help protect the panel in those tight spots.
