New from West Jordan

Hey everyone, just a quick introduction. My name is Mat and currently I am living in West Jordan, UT. I have been off roading since I was born (my dad had to put my mom in the Jeep and go for a ride in the hills to put her into labor with me, and almost didn't make it to the hospital in time!). Anyways, fast forward 33 years and here we are. I currently have a 1979 Ford F-150 short bed running on 35" tires, and recently purchased a 1983 Jeep CJ7 which has eaten up every spare minute and penny I've had in the last 5-6 months. It's good to be on here and I look forward to meeting new people and learning from each and every one of you. Hopefully I have some knowledge and input that can help some of you as well. Happy trails!

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I was bummed all weekend that we didn't make it down to Moab for the labor day safari, so we decided to go somewhere closer to home to make up for it a little. We hadn't had the jeep off road since we got it back in April, and my cousin wanted to show us Rattlesnake, so we decided to head out there on Monday. It didn't go too bad considering it was our first time out, but not quite as good as i had hoped for. The weber carb decided to flood out on the slightest of inclines, requiring the use of a tow strap twice to get me over areas that should have been a cake walk. It wasn't until I had the jeep flexed pretty good that I realized I had a broken motor mount (which I am assuming is the reason for my throttle linkage binding up when the suspension is flexed). On the way back down I couldn't keep it on the trail, it was like trying to steer a toboggan. Turns out one of the bolts had come all the way out of my steering box and the second was half way out. Luckily I keep a bag of old nuts and bolts, which my wife constantly gives me crap for picking up every nut and bolt I see on the ground, and we were fixed in no time. Add to that the fact that I broke the aluminum step on the passenger side on a rock and it's no wonder I was throwing out some curse words by the end of the day, but its nice to know what work I have yet to do to get her where I want her to be. And it's equally as good for the wife to see first hand what work needs done so she doesn't get quite so frustrated at me spending the $$ for parts.

I just told my wife that I just bought some parts for my dana 60 axle, locker and steering arm, she didn't care at all, I was expecting some smart remark but nothing, might have to order some more parts. I made a stupid move when we got married and told her whatever I put into my truck, she can have the same amount for whatever.......not smart. Luckily she has only held it against me one time. Course it helps out that I am the one that manages the money.
