We have been looking in to getting a jeep since we wrecked our truck a few weeks ago. We really like the new grands 06 and newer but the only problem is most of them dont have the option for 4low They are just full time 4x4 and a few are full time with a button for 4low only no 4hi or anything. And we spend 90% of our life in the hills and on trails and im not sure how the full time 4x4 would work for us with out 4lo. Or if i found one with 4lo option it may work ok but i have also heard that with full time 4x4 that if you blow out a tire that you can not just put any ol' tire on you have to replace all? Because if you put one with less/more tread than the other tires it will mess up the full time system is this true? Does anyone here drive one of these who wheels it? If so how is the full time option in the hills etc? any input or info would be great.

I think you've just boiled down the bulk of the issues with a modern "SUV". They're neutered versions of what they used to be. They are great for running the kids to soccer practice and dropping them off at school. They even work OK in the snow but they're not much of an off-road vehicle unless you do some research to know what you're buying.

I'd stick with the 4 low option or find an older '99-04 WJ and rock that rather than deal with the newer WK with the IFS and weird option configurations. RE: the WK, I think if you get the v6 you get the full time-high only transfer case. You'll have to get the V8 to get a transfer case with a low-range option. (personally, I'm 100% not a fan of the styling on the WK, but that's an aside)
