Since October I’ve been working at the local Carquest in Roosevelt. Friday we got a call about a guy needing a ring and pinion. They were pretty vague as to what axle they had and weren’t totally sure on the ratio. At first they thought it was a 9” with a 3.50:1 ratio.
I showed up this morning and found out the customer had dropped off the gears after I left. Turns out it’s a Dana 44 high pinion reverse rotation. After pulling the pinion out of the box I could now see why they were having a hard time counting teeth to verify the ratio. This is what happens when you run out of oil and continue to drive the truck. Pretty gnarly new paperweight. 😂
