New trail in the 5mp area

Brett and I were out exploring for the Winter Convention and stumbled across this ravine. It is well inside the Open to cross country travel area so it is fair game to drive/develop. Go here: N 40 degrees 16.126' , W 112 degrees 11.103'. When you get there, look to your left. Down the hill is the ravine. This is at the top end of the ravine; so for a first run it would be easier to run it downhill. According to the map, it looks as if this ravine actually connects two other exstablished roads, thus making a "short cut". Here are some pics:

It looks pretty soft and loose---wouldn't traffic up that just create a ton of errosion and a simple two track road?

I just think of the parts of constrictor that used to be like that and they are just flat, two track road now (much like the rest of contrictor now that I think about it :( )

But it's obviously hard to tell from the pictures. If there is a lot of rock through the trail it could be fun...

I would hardly consider Constrictor a two track road. I only walked down a couple hundred yards of this one. Hopefully there is more rock, but a fair amount of it was dirt. The way I see it, the BLM designated this area as open to cross country travel, so we should take advantage of it. My dream is to see about 20 4x4 trails, all named after snakes, in this area.

I too think that would be awesome, part of the problem right now with Con and RattleSnake is they are the only designated trails in the area right now, so therefore they get used (a TON)...with a bunch more trails in the area I think it would spread the wear and tear out accross them all, making it possible for mother nature to "repair" the wear and tear...

Amen to that one.

That looks like the canyon that I ended up (by mistake) riding my banshee down a couple of months ago. If it's the same one, there is quite a few rock ledges. It should be pretty cool.

Ok here's a little more info. For the first run, ATV's would be a good idea. Parts of the gully shown in the pic are going to drag the first victim on its side for a ways, so if you value your paint and straight sheet metal, think again. (That part could be bypassable though). Take some small hand saws and clippers. PM me for specific instructions on how to get to it. (There is a way I can explain how to get there without using GPS but it will take longer).

PS I reserve the right to name it. :)
