Hello everybody. I found this site through an FJ Cruiser member site. I have been reading some of the posts this evening and have really enjoyed what I've read so far.

I am a teacher living in Orem. I just purchased an FJ Cruiser about a month ago and am getting it ready to hit the trails. I haven't done any four-wheeling since I sold my Blazer about 10 years ago. Before that I used to go off-road with my friend who owned an FJ40. He didn't have his driver's license yet so I got to do all of the driving!

I have owned several semi-off-road capable vehicles (including a fantastic 2001 Trooper and a 2003 Pathfinder), but with work, parenting, and a severe softball addiction I just never found time to build up and hit the hills. Now I have had to stop playing ball and find myself with a bit more free time.

I look forward to being part of the group hopefully. I'd like to get back on the trails and help out with things like service projects and educating on the proper use of our backcountry. I feel that I have a lot to offer in the educational/PR side of things considering my background.

Hopefully I get to meet some of you fine folks soon!

I can't get a picture to post in the body of the message for some reason (maybe because I only have one post?). I have attached a recent photo of the FJ (my pride and joy!).

Thanks for the nice welcome everybody!

Welcome to RME! The FJ Cruiser looks great, there's plenty of fun places in Utah to explore with a vehicle like that. Watch the Upcoming Trips forum for people that are going out, just about everyone on here will help you find something to your liking. I'd highly recommend taking your FJ up American Fork Canyon (Mineral Basin, Forest Lake, Mary Ellens Gulch, etc), you'll love exploring up there!

With your interest in helping with Land Use, I'd suggest getting involved with the Utah 4WD Assoc. They meet weekly in Sandy and always need willing volunteers.

What subject & where do you teach? My wife teaches 7th grade here in CO. I grew up in Orem, but that was long ago. ;)

Thanks for the info Greg and the others for the welcome!

I teach fourth grade at Orem Elementary School. I have worked a split job as an administrator the past two years. I taught the other half of the day. I am following my heart and going back to full-time teaching next year.

That cuts down on my meeting schedule during the summer (they never ended!) and frees me up to actually have a hobby again. Woohoo!!!!

Welcome!

One correction to Greg's post....the U4WDA meetings are once per MONTH, not once per WEEK. :greg:
