NG Lines (Outdoor)???

So, what are my options for lines for a fire pit? I'm planning on running it from my house out about 100-125ft. Is there some kind of flex line available or do I have to go with steel lines?

I'm not sure about the stuff outdoors, but just put some in for the fire place down stairs and I paid $8.00 per foot. Be ready for a pricey tab..

CNG? I'm guessing you're talking about low pressure natural gas? Anything above ground has to be steel. Below ground has to be wrapped steel, or plastic.

For that much of a run, go steel down into your trench, then plastic. Back to steel before you get to your fire pit, and remember to wrap all your burried steel and connections well in underground pipe wrap.

That's what I'm afraid of...but I've already got the line trenched and want to get it in the ground.

I guess you're right, it's not compressed, infact it's quite low pressured...so yeah, low pressure natural gas :p

Where would I get the plastic stuff? I was hoping to do just as you described (steel out in to the trench, then plastic till just before the pit and then do steel again). I've looked at Lowes and HD but haven't been able to find anything.

I'm guessing you're not involving the local authorities with permits and such? ;) HDPE (black water line, AKA "Funny Pipe") is fine for natural gas, as is copper. Neither are approved for use in this state though.

The yellow or pink plastic are for gas (I'm not in my office, otherwise I could give you a better description). Any plumbing supply house will have it, but I believe it comes in 250' rolls. You might luck out and find a 100' roll though.

Which ever way you go, just make sure to wrap every connection so it is water tight.

go down to a plumbing supply and get the yellow plastic gas pipe and the ends for it...you cant use copper because it will deteriorate..black pipe has to be wrapped or it will rust...

There are no permits specific for this type of thing really but you will be liable for anything that happens because of it. Make sure your trench is at least 24" deep and use the yellow plastic gas piping.

What kind of stuff did you use? I went and priced the flex stuff today (Gastite :D) and it's $2.19 a foot for 1/2", black pipe was ~$.98 a foot. Now I gotta find a licensed plumber to buy it for me :p

I would have to look at it. It looks like the flexible conduit with a yellow covering.

Yep, that's the same stuff I got a price for. Gastite is the name brand but it's actually called CSST (Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing). Where/how did you get yours? I assume you did the ends yourself? Were they easy, or???

EDIT: Guess I'm too slow :p

I bought it at the company we got our fireplace at. I ran the line and had the installers connect it that saved me $2.00 per foot. There was a tool that they used to cut it and strip back the cover. The brass fittings were just compression fittings. Looked easy enough.
