No Output CB

I have had my CB installed but i guess my mic never has worked. I can hear everyone just fine, but the mic doesnt work. I though i had it tuned correct and everything but tried a 2nd mic today and still not working... Havent been able to find much on the issue and looked at that thread just below on his CB not working either but no help. Anyone have any ideas on what could be the issue? I have a 4' firestick, with a Cobra 19 ultra 3 CB installed. Any ideas, tips, tricks would be helpful! And this CB did work in the past in a previous 4runner that i owned as well.

I had that issue years ago on my CB and took it to the radio shop where I bought it. They said that my antenna grounded out and fried my transmitter. They said they could fix it, but I didn't like their price quite and never had it done.

Some CB's don't like not having a mic or antenna hooked up, and if powered without it can fry components

Yep, cb with with power and no antenna or no mic = not good.

Not sure why, but it cooks them.

Yeah never powered it on without antenna... so im guessing to try a new CB... Then is anyone good at tuning a CB to ensure it is tuned to my truck so i dont have to worry about it myself by chance?

the best results I have had on getting a CB to work well is to make sure the length of the coax is correct. It sounds weird but I believe your firestick is pretuned for a 18' coax. Which is probably to long for your application. So just coil it up with 6"+ loops under your dash or where ever is out of the way.

I just did this same thing when I wired that new Cb in my wife jeep Saturday. It was amazing the clarity and range we had when we sent power to the unit.

In a nutshell... when the signal travels through an impedance mismatch from an improperly terminated line (or hits an open circuit), a reflection of that signal travels back up that line and adds to the voltage of the original signal. If the output RF transistor isn't rated for this higher voltage it will damage or blow it up.

Also, You're right about running 18ft even if you need less, but you don't want to coil up any extra and introduce some inductance, just kinda bunch it up.

^ What he said.

Also, in reference to tuning, you would be tuning your antenna to your vehicle.

Tuning the radio is a different matter, and is not required for operation.
