Who makes a six ton jack stand that isn't the ratcheting style? I found one, and the reviews on it are terrible. And everything else is the ratcheting style, which I know is perfectly safe and guys use 'em every day without dying a horrible squishy death, but I can't have 'em. They give me the heebs.

This is the style I'm trying to replace:

I saw the Larin stand, I didn't like the reviews or the pics the guy posted. That Omega stand looks beefcake though, I love it.

Mine have the locking pin. Makes me feel all safe and warm.

I'll check it out Saturday.

Personally I don't worry about the ratcheting design as much as I worry that the male part (giggity) on practically all ratcheting styles being made from cast iron. Chinese cast iron at that. If they were forged, I would trust them whole-heartedly.

That said, I don't lose sleep over my cast iron ratcheting stands. I stay well under the weight rating and I've never felt unsafe with them.

I know the feeling - I have one at home that is bending and getting ready to break. I'll try to get a pic of it to share, but it looks like it was from a weight (within the rating) resting on one of the flanges on the end instead of on the center of the post.

My concern is that under lightish loads, or if the pawl is not firmly seated in the teeth, the handle can release under a firm bump. Both of those problems can be dealt with by paying attention and double checking, but I'm a space cadet and the consequences of failing to double check at the wrong time are gruesome.
