Non-starting XJ

Battery is good, alternator is good, changed out the coil, changed out cap and rotor, plugs and wires are good, still wont start. Could it be the Distributor? Any ideas?

Is it turning over? Sounds like it is, but if your getting nothing - I had a problem with the neutral safety switch on my 98XJ. Had to clean up the contacts.

If it's turning over, a common problem with the 4.0l I6 is the crankshaft position sensor fails. (oddly its abbreviated CKP, not CPS, as CPS is a camshaft position sensor, which is on the distributor.) it's located on the drivers side of the engine at the rear of the cylinder head, bolted to the bellhousing of your transmission. Replace it and it should fire right up.

That's what thecrankshaft position sensor gets rid of, (spark) it definitely seems like it is that.

CPS, always my first guess in that situation.

Yep CPS....But get the OE one! Checker/Autozone ones have been DOA out of the box.

Auto Shut Down relay? what year is the XJ?

CPS or whatever ya wanna call it....My jeep had the exact same problem...

Turned out to be the camshaft position sensor, I tried the crankshaft position sensor first but it did not work.
