These are from a derailment in Palisade Canyon, NV, between Carlin and Beowawe, NV, on Sat. Dec. 27, 2008. Territory that I run on.

Nice!! I've actually worked out there, I've walked over that bridge and thru that exact tunnel numerous times. The ties in that territory are sh!t, a big derailment was bound to happen. We replaced something in the neighborhood of 200k ties and that track still looked very questionable.

I'd be scared to operate on that section of track...

The rail was bad, but the ties were worse. It was out of gage constantly, that track has been neglected for 30+ yrs, having a big tie gang out there for 3 months wasn't going to fix the problem.

Does that concern you? That's the good thing about my job... you derail a truck or machine and it's no big deal.

Fortunately though, when the rails breaks, it drops the signals. Although on my last trip west we broke a rail that the 'hot-shot' behind us found.

I think someday something is going to bite someone is the ass!!!

I don't. At least they're working.

I threw a bid in for the SL/Pocotello route in case they had to run trains around the mess, but I guess they have a parallel track to get around it.

9.14 Current of Traffic territory between Alazon/Wells to Weso/Winnemucca. They have us running against the current of traffic between Carlin, NV. and a little hole in the ground (literally) called Barth, NV. Only about 16 miles. An inconvenience, but not the end of the world either. I doubt they'll be re-routing any trains because of this.

I went by this morning. From what I was able to see in the dark, it's basically already cleaned up. Bridge is gone, wrecked cars are out of the river. There's a "BUNCH" of equipment in Carlin. Open top gondolas full of debris. Now I think it's just a matter of the UP trying to figure out how to replace a 102 year old bridge in the shortest amount of time possible.

Yeah, it didn't seem to change much on the boards here on my end. I was hoping it would cause a few jobs to get picked up like the Oregon mudslide last winter. That kept me working Jan. thru April.

They're trying to get rid of alot of us, or so it seems, with all the sh!t they try to do to us. It was bad enough with the huge surplus of employees they had, then with the economy, they only run about half the trains they used to.
