So, someone tell me what is considered an OHV and what's not. I assume that all ATV's are considered this. But, what about my Cherokee? What's it's designation?
BLM said:Off Highway Vehicle (OHV is synonymous with, and the more current term for, Off-Road Vehicles (ORV)) "off road vehicle" means any motorized vehicle capable of, or designed for, or cross country travel on or immediately over land, water, or other natural terrain, excluding (1) any nonamphibious registered motorboat; (2) any military, fire, emergency or law enforcement vehicle when being used for emergency purposes; (3) any vehicle whose use is expressly authorized by the authorized officer, or otherwise officially approved; (4)vehicles in official use; and (5) any combat or combat support vehicle when used in times of national defense emergencies (as defined in 43 CFR 8340.0-5).
Maybe this is outdated if they widened it to accomidate the side by sides
(3) (a) "All-terrain type II vehicle" means any other motor vehicle, not defined in Subsection (2), (9), or (20), designed for or capable of travel over unimproved terrain.
(b) "All-terrain type II vehicle" does not include golf carts, any vehicle designed to carry a disabled person, any vehicle not specifically designed for recreational use, or farm tractors as defined under Section 41-1a-102.
Jeeps (or other 4x4s) aren't OHV if they have a street license on them.
... nor is a buggy with an OHV tag...
