After a a buddy and I took a day off for salvage yard finds, car repair, and relaxation, we took Miyagi up Old Ward. Hit the B staging area about 11:20pm. We started at the bottom, found lots of high school kids at the bowl with campfires/makeouts. Nothing screams romance like a cold and windy mountainside.
Lower portion was uneventful, though some of the washes are getting pretty gnarly and off-camber at the bottom right above the play area, glad I have my LS in the back. Smooth sailing up to the lower and upper meadow areas (if there's an official name I don't know them)... Zipped past the part that held us up on the Feb 1 run, went ahead through that first smaller rock garden as the road turns left. Snow still on the road, melty in places, we were still crusing along, and then....
We rounded a bend and saw a Yukon (maybe Yukon XL, rounder year body style) stopped in the road, having slightly slid toward the downward edge. No joke. I'll post up a pic tomorrow. Street tires, Layton High parking pass in the window. We assessed the situation, and determined that he'd gone UP the trail (we'd noticed his tracks on the way up and his increased struggle for traction), had been hindered by snow and had managed to turn around, then had gotten to that point and had slid... No sign of the drivers, hood was warm but not hot. Shouted a bit, nothing in response.
So then we had the fun fun task of backing down the snowy trail. In the dark. Though, I'm grateful we didn't do the trail from the top down, or we would still be there. The snow was deep/slick enough that there wouldn't be much backing out going on.
All in all though, a way fun evening ride. I got to use my new LED off road lights, and they were excellent. Make my regulars look like candles. Fun to be out, it's been a while.
