I must be 2-3 of his hits because I have read his site several times... I assume somthing is wrong with his counter...

Tried this thing out yet?

I would love to rig this up but fear nuking my entire electrical system... I wish there was a better way to isolate it...

Since it's a separate alternator, isn't that about as isolated as you can get? You aren't altering your current electrical system at all. If you're not welding on your own rig, I can't see any potential for damage to your rig at all, short of your Weldernator nuking itself.

Okay, so assuming you ARE welding on your own rig, do you see any potential for damage there, other than the damage anyone can do with any welder (cutting and melting of vital components)?

Just read this at the bottom f the page: "If you are welding on your own vehicle, you must connect the rod to the + side. If not, you will essentially short out your vehicle's charging system and battery." Guess that answers my question.

Theoretically.... but you still have to use the ground on your system as well as a battery to provide the field on the Alt... That is what worries me, I run a Wrangler dual bettery setup, works great, Yellow top powers my winch/120V inverter and the redtop powers everything else... The two are hooked together using a large solenoid that can be damaged by jump-starting improperly, etc. I guess if I can isolate my second battery when I am welding I should be OK...
