Cosco has good prices on optimas and as always, you can take it back no questions asked. I've had really good luck with Red tops in the cold leaving my truck alone for sometimes months. Starts every time.

I put a Red Top in my little Bronco II and took it out to AF not knowing that the alternator wasn't working. The Bronco had been driven around for about two weeks prior to that and lasted all day up at AF even with all the cranking trying to get it to start with clogged jets. Finally on the way back to the truck none of my lights were working but it still got me back. So IMO yes they are worth it but I have no experience with any other batteries. I guess I'll really see when I get back from Iraq and try to start it after it's been sitting for 6 months.

I love my red top optimas. I have three of them right now.

Optimas do not like slow steady discharges till they're dead. If you discharge it in a hurry (winching or something) but then charge it back up, they go forever. I have killed several by letting them sit for a long time with a draw on them. If your gonna park your rig for a while and it has lots of electronic junk that stays on-- disconnect the battery and it will live a long happy life. Even with pitchfork holes in it.

I have a cabin at Bear Lake. WE use a 1940? tractor to move the boat in and out of the water at the beach. I also use to jump start my friends boats and stuff up there as well.

I bought a red top the first year they came out and it still starts the old tractor every year. I disconnect the battery every year and store it on 2x4's for the winter. I use a 6 amp charger for 3 hours on it before it gets used each spring. Its never let me down.

I feel there more than worth the cost.

I've found out by experience if you slowly discharge a red top to dead they wouldn't come back to life unless I used a motorcycle trickle charger. Tried running my runner for an hour and nothing, even a regular charger and nothing. twice a 2 amp trickle brought it back and no noticeable side effects. Sweet batteries.
