I wonder if anyone has heard of a way to Shave Down Tires that are severly out of round? I have a set of Mt/Rs' and two of the four are cupped out baddly. I have access to a fork lift and we lifted the rear axel off the ground and smoked them pretty good and it helped but.....

dose anyone know if there is a "Tire shaving Machine"? AI know the Tire industry has such a machine to true up Semi Tires but what about LT and P rated tires? Just trying to save a little $$ and get a smoother ride.

I have heard of people doing it to their out-of-round tires (like Swampers), so it can be done. I have no idea where/who has the equipment though.

there was a article in a mag a couple years ago about a place in Texas that had a machine that could do it. They were using it as a way to balance the reallly large tires.

try fourwheelers website.

yeah I saw a show where they rotated 44 inch boggers on some show truck and it cut tiny slices off the out of round parts to balance them better. I think it was on that weekly show trucks? But like said earlier they used semi tire tools.

i had a set of 34's kinda the same problem, they where cupped on one side from being out of line. what i did is made small cuts ( alot of small cuts ) in the high side of the ruber, then mounted them in the rear of my 57 ( willys ) and since it was a welded diff it did not take more than a few weeks to grind them down to where they strated to ware down evenly.

i figured they had to grind down at least 1/8'' to get them even, i was going to slice them some more with the razor knife but it was working, jason.
