alright me and my bud have been arguing about this...... he has a blazer that keeps over heating and I Tell him it can be.... radiator, thermastat, pump or other crap that relates to the cooling system......... his dumb ass keeps telling me he just needs a new engine...... so my question is does the engine have anything to do with the cooling system??????????

yep...if its running too lean its gonna overheat...there are a ton of other things that have to do with the engine that could cause it to overheat...the cooling system isn't a seperate system like you make it sound...it all works together...but he would be smart to try the stuff you listed first before getting a new engine (unless there is something you're leaving out like its knocking:D)

Your 2000 need to run a higher octain (sp) level this will prevent the ping.

Also, you are more than likely correct on the cooling. I would bet that the motor is not the problem. First thing I would check given the outside temps in the fan shroud. Make sure it is leak proof.

think about it long and hard...say you have the large tank (about 18 gal.) by just stepping up to the middle grade you are only spending $1.80 (at most) more...I think I'll spend the two bucks to help my engine:rolleyes:

Nope, two different components with different functions, one moves the vehicle, the other moves the water.

Sorry... :D;)

I think you know
The ONLY thing the engine has to provides to the cooling system is an air-tight water jacket, oh and of course the need for a cooling system in the first place.

BTW did you know that the octane rating on gasoline is its resistance to detonation or burning. So if you have a ping, knock, pre-ignition, pre-detonation, or in mbryson's case a premature detonation problem, or what ever you want to call it problem a higher octane fuel would fix it. Rather simply and easily I might add.
