Painting a rack

Not boobs mind you, but a roof rack. I picked one up this morning and I'd like to spray it silver, to better match my Jeep (yep, I'm weird.) My question's are as follows. One, it's powder coated black, so from what I am told, it's okay to paint over it, I just need to scuff it up nicely. Two, if I do rattle can, what brands and type's of paint would you guys recommend? I want it to look nice and hopefully not need to be repainted every year. I just like to keep things clean for my Jeep ;)

PS, anyone a vendor for Surco?

I'd go to a paint store, someone who mixes ppg, you can color match you paint (or whatever color you want) for ~$8/can (some stores have a minimum you may need to buy 3-4 cans). you don't get the finish of a spray gun, but it lays down nice and it won't fade like wal-mart paint.

Hmmm.....I think that Auto Body Supply does that. I'll run down there tomorrow and find out!

I would find a quality powder coater. Often they have many colors available. It is surprisingly inexpensive. I did both my bumpers and some other little stuff for like $100. That included sandblasting to remove the old powder coat.

I would recommend removing the powder coat before painting. Once it starts to bubble and peal, the paint will come right off with it.

Check with Extreme powder coating in North Salt Lake. Jim does great work and is reasonable. 296-2855
