So on the military base there are about a dozen civilian vehicles sitting around. Typically these get demilled and put out on the ranges for training aids. (demilled means removal of oil, glass, anything that contaminates the environment).
So my question: how can i legally get the Ford kp dana 60 from theF350? :D

Swap it for a D44 at night? Just keep it a roller and nobody will notice. :)

Tell them that the front axle may contain oils that may get into the soil and to be safe it should be removed.

(They don't shoot the hard metal components. That's why the axles, engines, etc are removed before the bodies are dragged out on the range.)

i have shot at  unfortunatly a few duces with axles still in place. i have no idea how to go about getting your hands on the axle, but when you do find out let me know

we've utilized a lot of ranges that are set up as mock villages with vehicles all around to simulate a busy market square, for example. most of the vehicles i've seen have no drivetrail and often have the axles but not always. These don't always go out on firing ranges but i too have fired up a duece or tank that was complete.

Steve, I can guarantee you are incorrect on this. MOST engines and some transmissions are removed. But they all have axles...

Well I've heard and seen the same thing, though this may relate only to vehicles being used on the UTTR. Boyce Equipment buys large cache's of axles from vehicles heading to the range.

Well then rather telling us how we are just wrong he could explain the situation. ;)

I know several "recipients" of axles that were heading to the range and Boyce was the one that told me they bought axles of rigs that were being scrapped for target use.

blame my comment on early morning belligerence; as opposed to my normal state of argumentativeness

alright Rog.. I backed you.. now explain :)

I do believe that some of those axles and parts come from after they have been used.. survivors you might say. Hopefully Rog can/will explain. I know he has been working on target ranges here as well as china lake and others for the last 10-15 years.

China Lake, Nellis, White Sands, UTTR... Bombing range targets still have their axles. Gotta move them around somehow. As realistic for the pilots as possible. I would imagine the axles Boyce gets are from other vehicles, or after the targets have been sent to be recycled.

I don't usually comment on my work locations or duties, but one of my duties is to survey the targets before and after. Let me rephrase that. I DID survey. I start a new job Monday, same basic place, just a whole different way of doing it... Yes, my old job is currently open, if you have a strong electronics background, apply at http://www.JT3.com and click on careers.

Gotta be careful what ranges are discussed. I'm sure FIRING ranges don't want the hard parts to ricochet small arms back at the shooters...

And yes, everytime I see Rockwells destroyed, it pains me...

I don't always like to explain where I work, leads to too many other questions. Chances are, Boyce gets the axles AFTER the vehicles were otherwise "disposed of"...

I have no idea how it is on every range used by the military. I know heavy duty axles can be legally purchased from vehicles heading to a range in Utah. Or not, whatever. :)
