Paying for Unified Police

Who else is excited to get their first bill yesterday to pay for police protection that they have never used? 174 dollars is what it costs to keep me safe during a year they say:rolleyes: Each police dispatchment to a home costs 314, so by their logic, one out of every 2 homes has the police come at least once a year. I have never seen a police car on our street, but at least now I know that I can sleep at night knowing I'm not only paying taxes for it, but monthly also:mad2:

Yes, it's fantastic.

What if we all get together and NOT pay? I know they can put a lein on our properties, but they couldn't do that to everyone in the county, could they?

I know, good luck getting everyone together on ANYTHING....but I can dream.

I don't agree with the extra tax at all, but saying you never had to use the police is a very good thing.

Yep, got the bill. It's bullshit and illegal. I'm all about law enforcement but just because the county can't budget and has absolutely no foresight doesn't mean we should have bend over. :mad2:

Crap.. I'm moving in the area in a few weeks, will I get a bill?

Of course you will, I will make sure;) I read online about the lien being put on your house if you don't pay, how can I get in trouble for not paying for a service I don't use:mad:

They'll argue that eventually you will need it. But if/when you do they won't show up soon enough. Knowing you, that won't matter. :D

I would be interested in seeing the online report about the leins.

As a side note, I am not making the kind of money I used to. I am finding it hard to budget my expences also. Even though nobody here has used my services, I will be sending all a bill so I can get by. Maybe the Chief of police and all those that devised this scam will all understand and pay me.

What is the difference between this and ths mob coming to you and demanding payment for
''protection.'' Protection from whom? The mob of course! In this case would it be protection from a lein on your house?

True, 174 dollars a year will buy quite a bunch of bullets. Besides when was the last time you heard they caught anybody in the act anyways, either the bad guy gets away, or it is handled by the home owner:D Kori was actually siding with me on this one last night, she even said we shouldn't pay it at all. She agreed up until I said this didn't happen until Obama took power:rofl:

Who has to pay this? I mean what county?

call them to your house everyday and file a report for someone stealing 174 of your dollars.

lol...that's a good idea. Get your moneys worth. So is this what you have to pay every month or just once a year?

The $174 is per year, per household.. The number goes up for businesses.. Up to $7,000 for shopping centers.

Mesha.. I like that idea..

I'm pissed about it... I'm still trying to figure out what they do for my home businesses too. Both my wife and I run home businesses, so as it stands we may have to pay 3 different 'fees'. There was an article in the paper the other day that said they would not be double 'taxing' home businesses but I'll believe that when I see it.

^ Big time sucks..

How are they getting away with this? There is no way it's legal. Pay up or we'll put a lien on your house. Really?

I don't understand. How were you paying for police before? If you called a cop who came? Were you getting county sheriffs so called protection? If it was a part of your State, County, or City taxes before why didn't they just increase the original tax? What caused the increase or were you not paying for police before?

That's my question, too. Weren't you paying for police coverage by the sheriff's dept before? I'm assuming that now you aren't paying that in your county taxes for your area (sales or property - I don't know where it comes from).

I would definitely start calling the cops out to my house 2-3 times per year. Every time they arrive, I'd be standing on my porch with a stop watch and when they walked up I'd hit "stop," shake my head and grumble about how I'm not getting my $174 dollars worth with these lazy pastry eaters, then I'd tell them to go around back and check for the prowler that my wife thought she saw.

We are already paying through our property taxes for the slc sheriff. This new "FEE" is to avoid raising taxes due to budget shortfalls due to decreased tax revunue because of the economy. I think they did the fee because they know higher taxes wouldn't pass. So lucky us, we get to pay twice.

We need some math done. I bet they are going to make a killing of the amount of people that have to pay.

They also say that the fee can be reduced or removed when the economy gets better. Yeah right... guarantee it goes up every year not matter that status.
