I need to pull off my pitman arm, so I rented a puller from autozone, twisted on it so hard it broke the puller in half, how do I get it off???? heat it up?? Im clueless!

Use the puller to put tension on the pitman. Smack the pitman arm with a hammer right below the steering box case, a ball peen would work. The idea is to momentarily deform the spline engagement and it will fall off.

They can be hell to get off. Ruined one steering box trying to get one off. The best way I found was whats already been described above. ;)

Mine took three Checker pullers and a BFH all while it was being heated up with a torch. Not typical, but that's what it took!!

sounds about like my experience...but mine were from Autozone :D this happened on both my YJ and my bros old CJ...yet a friend of ours YJ pitman arm just popped right off when we used the same puller...some (most) are just a PITA to get off, stick with it, you'll get it :D

Give it up for a day. Soak the pitman arm in PB Blaster or some variation, with a rag tied around it (soaked in the same stuff). Then do the same as described above with the puller and hammer. It works every time...... :-\

If you follow the instructions given above and still can't get it off, take the entire box off and bring it by. I'll remove it for ya...

I know it sucks to have to remove the box, but you can potentially do damage to the housing or sector shaft if you're careless getting that arm off. Keep in mind that you can nuke those sector shaft seals when using a torch too.
