I'm looking for a good place to have a cage put in an XJ. I called Rad in SLC and he said about 1500 to 2000 for an interior cage. Anyone else have some places they recommend? This is for a BITD racer so I need good quality.

Thanks

MD Motorsports! PM Redd. They do a bunch of desert buggies and go-fast stuff.

Ben Hanks, their stuff goes pretty fast, and falls off and into rocks w/out breaking....

That price sounds pretty decent for a well-fit cage. XJ's aren't that easy to stuff people AND a good solid cage into.

Just be careful of the Joe-schmoe that has a tube bender and a welder in his garage and offers to build the roll cage for 1/2 or 1/3 the price.

Roll cages, especially in race vehicles, need to built by someone that really knows what they are doing with the tube work, notching and welding. They need to understand how to engineer a cage that will hold up in a wreck. Remember, this quite possibly could save your life when things get out of hand, is it worth saving $500 on a roll cage only to loose your life due to a poorly built cage?

I'm a Joe-schmoe with a welder in my garage and a tube bender... when it came to my TJ build, I opted to pay the price and had Ben Hanks Racing build my cage. It was much safer than what I could have done and I felt good knowing that it would hold up to some serious abuse. Sometimes you just have to buck-up and pay the price for quality.

I'd recommend any of the well-known fab shops that advertise on here.

Thanks guys. I'll check with Ben Hanks.

Yea Greg I know what you mean. I have a tube bender and welder in my garage, but I don't feel comfortable with my skills yet to build a cage to save my life lol

Ben Hanks did my cage. They did a great job and were good to work with. I'll be calling them again soon for a few other things.

We race in BITD and know how to make a cage meet all the rules. Remember that they are very particular about vehicle weight ranges requiring certain diameters and wall thicknesses, and the design is critical too. Give me a call and I'll chat with you about it if you're interested, I'll PM you my number.

Pay someone that knows what they are doing like hanks or a desert shop like MD. Remember the XJ has no frame and will need some one that knows how to deal with this. MD's guy has a brother that is very skilled and worked for a factory Jeep team and will have some insight. If you want to tow to vegas I can give a recomendation but you will need a huge wallet.
