Anyone know what I can use to stop a leak in a plastic gas tank? It s not a huge hole and we didn't notice it til after my bro ahd put $50 worth of gas into it.

I've heard rubbing a bar of soap into pin holes and the wax will help temporarily.

Bummer I had a 22 gal tank full of premium when I had to drop it.

JB Weld works as long as you have the level of the gas below the leak (it needs to be dry...) Scuff it up a bit before you glue it too.

Soap works I can vouch for that, it got me home(150 miles ish) with a hole the size of my pinky but it only last's for a couple day's not by any means a long term fix. After the soap i went to Autozone and got a gas tank plug, it looks like dual colored silly puddy and that worked for at least a year when my parents finally had the tank replaced. Self taught life lesson, never loan your kid your car when they are home on leave for two weeks.

The best thing I have found is the two part epoxy resin that comes with a sheet of fiberglass. It is made specificly for fuel tanks. You can even patch over a wet leak. Most places used to have it, but lately I have only found it at NAPA.

I would try the JB weld first. After that maybe it would be worth your time to drill it out bigger and think of something like a rubber plug or a tapered allen head bolt that has a fender washer on each side with rubber seals under it?

JB weld water weld would work while its flowing out. My exhuast melted a hole in mine so I drained the tank and used a blown torch and a putty knife and sealed it up good as new. Worked great too it just passed a pressure test for my I/M...

How well will the JB weld work with the tank flexing? The tank is dry and not currently leaking. It has a bad scuff on the bottom of it and only leaks when he flexes the vehicle.
