Instead of making our normal trek to Moab for Labor Day, this year Scorpion and Yellowbronco thought it would be fun to venture out into our own great state and check out Carnage Canyon and Penrose. Once we got past Scorpion's fears of me going into labor on the trail, we hit the road. After stopping at the lovely Gunsmoke; a random truck stop in the middle of nowhere next to a prison, sounds inviting doesn't it, we drove the two miles to the trail head for Carnage Canyon. We were all quite excited and surprised to not see any other tow rigs there. Carnage is a nice tight canyon that immediately gets down to business.
Let the fun begin!
Bluecrush on the "V" crack
Lemon Joy likes being on her side
The winch out exit that unfortunately stymied us both. Oh well, next time!
Instead of heading straight back to the trucks, we hopped onto Chinaman's Gulch and drove out that way. That is a fun trail as well, not nearly as difficult as Carnage, but it was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. The views are beautiful up there and it was nice being out as the sun set. Unfortunately, by the time we got back to the trucks and loaded up, the closest town was already pretty much closed down for the night. We did luck out and find a Burger King with their drive-thru still open. Of course, neither of us fit through it with the trailers on so it was quite amusing to walk through the drive-thru and then have to explain what we were doing.
