Playing in Colorado

Instead of making our normal trek to Moab for Labor Day, this year Scorpion and Yellowbronco thought it would be fun to venture out into our own great state and check out Carnage Canyon and Penrose. Once we got past Scorpion's fears of me going into labor on the trail, we hit the road. After stopping at the lovely Gunsmoke; a random truck stop in the middle of nowhere next to a prison, sounds inviting doesn't it, we drove the two miles to the trail head for Carnage Canyon. We were all quite excited and surprised to not see any other tow rigs there. Carnage is a nice tight canyon that immediately gets down to business.

The winch out exit that unfortunately stymied us both. Oh well, next time!

Instead of heading straight back to the trucks, we hopped onto Chinaman's Gulch and drove out that way. That is a fun trail as well, not nearly as difficult as Carnage, but it was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. The views are beautiful up there and it was nice being out as the sun set. Unfortunately, by the time we got back to the trucks and loaded up, the closest town was already pretty much closed down for the night. We did luck out and find a Burger King with their drive-thru still open. Of course, neither of us fit through it with the trailers on so it was quite amusing to walk through the drive-thru and then have to explain what we were doing.

Sunday was another beautiful day and off we headed for Canon City. Whilst driving up the canyon, we realized we weren't the only ones excited for our day. Lemon Joy was so thrilled to be going out, she thought she would use her wing to help us go faster!

After a little magic with a bungee cord, we headed straight for Penrose and the Independence trails. It was interesting driving to the trail head because it looks pretty flat and boring around there. One would never guess the fun that awaits around a corner. You're just bumping along and all of a sudden: SHAZAM! It's time to play! :greg:

Lemon Joy climbing back out due to the trail being blocked by a broken buffoon.

After winding our way around and down, we came to the trail's premier obstacle "The Asshole". By this point, it was starting to rain and the trail was still blocked by the broken rigs. Mrs. Scorpion and I both voted to head back to the trucks and find our hotel which was right next to a Chili's. ;) Once we got back to the climb out of the canyon, we realized we'd made the right decision as Lemon Joy decided to loose her front ring and pinion. Suddenly, we were the broken buffoons!

Never one to waste an opportunity; Chris thought it would be a good time to lay LJ over and clean her out a bit. :)

Our creative children fishing out of Scorpion's tow rig.

Monday was our responsible parent day so we did the tourist thing and took our kiddos to the Royal Gorge. None of us had been there before and it was quite impressive.

Looking up at the bridge.

After spending 5 hours there, we were all worn out and ready to call it a day. It was a nice, quiet drive home and another good weekend to reminisce about.

Great pics and always love your write ups, especially the part with LJ waving at you. BTW, when did LJ get the bubble butt? Looks good. Reminds me of a song, I like big butts and I can't deny.....

Looks like a fun time. We should have put wheels on the rollcage.
 I don't know, Chris is already pretty comfortable on his side, that might just encourage more of his silly antics!

Chris got the skins on this spring. I love the girl's new rear end, I think it's sassy!
I love reading your reports because seeing how often LJ is on her side makes me feel good about my driving skills!
I'm not sure if that's a compliment....or not...... :ugh:

I just ran accross this thread looking for something else. Looks like you guys had some great wheelin fun, and fun down at the Royal Gorge, I just got married at the Royal Gorge last year.
There is nothing like riding my Harley just after our wedding on the Bridge with only few people on it, it rained real hard about half an hour before, so people left.
Then we went and did the sky coaster, did you guys try the sky coaster?FUN!!
