poor guy

While that sucks, I'm personally glad they made him check it. It's so annoying when you go to put your bag in the overhead bin and someone that can't read what size bag you're allowed to carry-on has taken the entire bin with their instrument that they don't want you to touch. I'm not saying Delta is without blame, but he should have either shipped it to himself at his next stop, or bought that extra ticket ahead of time instead of waiting till the plane was already full (that's the only reason they would have made him check it) and trying to get away with carrying it on for free.

Also, how in the hell is this really news worthy? Should I call the associated press next time an airline damages one of my bags? (Which if you travel much at all, it's a matter of when not if it will happen)

That sucks. Delta stole all of my christmas presents one year. When I called to file a complaint it was the first time I have ever heard- "Your expected hold time is 1hr 45 min" :ugh: And I waited. By the time I got through I let the beer do the talking which didn't help much LOL.

I hate airplanes and airlines

 That's pretty funny :D I agree about US based airlines. IMO, the best US airline is Jet Blue. Big seats, fair rates usually, and TVs at each seat. Most airlines overseas are head over heals better than US based airlines. I think the best actually is Ethiopian airlines. I was thoroughly impressed with Ethiopian. :)

that makes me sick. I met the guitarist of Maroon 5 (his parents are local) and he told me about his nightmares with the airlines as well. He had to lock his $30k guitar in his car and hope it didn't get too hot and damge it, or worse, someone steal it. The sad part is, after a $2000 repair, it'll never play the same. And you bond with your instrument. Some can never be replaced.

Agree, JetBlue has been very good for getting back to NY for me. Since my wife has been working for them, it's been even better, they are a great company for moms.

My favorite airline so far is Qatar air, huge screens, huge seats, anything you want to eat or drink. Tickets are not cheap though, so it kind of goes with the price I suppose.

Agreed. If a random guy with a guitar qualifies for a rule exception, who doesn't? I'd suggest he invest in a better case, while that case his tragically hip, it doesn't offer much in the way of protection.

As for US vs foreign airlines, I've experienced a mixed bag. Quantas (Aussie carrier) rocked, snacks, drinks, friendly, solid. On the other hand I flew on a Russian airline and it was sketch at best. My seat was broken, in my best attempt I asked the stewardess (who spoke about as much English as I spoke Russian :D) for a different seat. She came back and jammed a dirty blanket in the broken seat. Wasn't the worst 6 hours in the air :D
