Powder Coating Wheels

Picked up a new (used) car today. The previous owner had scraped up the wheels a bit. I would like to get some black wheels anyways, so I am wondering if getting the stock wheels powder coated black would make the scratches not/less noticeable, and if so, anyone know of a shop around SL that I could get it done at? I don't have the capability to unmount the tires from the rims myself, so I would prefer a shop where I could drive the car to and have them do everything. Otherwise I guess I would have to put the car on jack stands, take the tires/wheels to a tire shop to be unmounted, take the wheels to get powder coated, pick up the wheels, take them back to the tire shop to be remounted.

Thoughts?

If you're going to get them coated, talk to Harper. He might still have that hookup I used on my wheels on the Jeep. AWESOME price and great quality.

I'm guessing that's going to be your only option. When they powder-coat metal, they put it in a big oven and bake the coating on. there may be other coatings that don't require baking, but powder coating does.

my neighbor had some stock FZJ wheels powdercoated, and for some reason the wheels were off-gassing and made it tough for the powder to stick to it in some places. I think they just cooked the wheels a few times to allow them to finish off-gassing, then they tried coating them. I can double-check what he did, because it worked that last time.

Looking at the wheels closer, they are fairly chewed up. I think that I might be better off just running them as they are until I need new tires and then getting new black wheels. I dont think that the powder coating would cover the scratches.

You could actually sand those gouges down pretty good. If you want a temporary/cheap fix, I painted my alloy trailer wheels with that grill paint and it came out really good.
