Didn't damage/eat anything that you wouldn't want it to? Sure looks clean and good bargain for the vehicle.

well, it turns over. the starter or the flex plate is probably stripped by the sounds it was making when I tried to jump it with my truck. I just had it hooked to one battery on my truck with a jumper cable, so that might be why its making weird noises. I'll get that sorted out.

Front clip is off. Bolts are out of the cab. Doors are sold. Ready to pull it in the garage and rip the engine, transmission and transfercase out of it.

I'm bummed the Mercedes didn't work out, but looking forward to the new swap. I like the the 6.2 diesels. With the engine out it might be a good time to replace the rear main seal and check to see that the glow plugs aren't stuck in the head. Autolites and Champions (for some reason everyone buys them) will swell to the point they won't come out without breaking off..

I'm bummed. I wish it would have worked. But on the bright side this 6.2 makes twice the power as the Mercedes engine.

Plan is to clean it all up. Reseal it. Remove the EGR crap. Turn up the fuel a touch and call it good.

I'd like to ad a blower later on. Push 10 psi through it.

I should be able to get 25 mpg. The old gas engine was getting 8-10 mpg.

Ok, so moving forward slowly. I had the starter tested, and as suspected, it was dead. So, I'm waiting for a new one from Amazon. Should be here on Thursday. $82 shipped. Already things are pretty cheap on this engine.

Ok, gaskets are done, Intake and valve covers. Nother else seemed bad, so I'll do more if needed. Engine is clean inside, so that a positive.

I bought a new starter $80 on Amazon. I had to helicoil one of the bolt holes, someone had broken a bolt off inside the hole. I had to drill it out and then put the helicoil.. The helicoil worked good. I tested the starter, and the engine turns over pretty good. I need to replace the glowplugs now.

I have a little more cleaning and painting to finish, then I'll slam it in, hook it up, weld in the motor mounts, and be finished. Well if the transmission and transfercase will fit in the hole, that is.

I often wonder how much time I spent cleaning crap up. Oh, well, if it make me happy. If i'd just slam it in there, i'd have been done a year ago. Now I will have the following combo:

6.2L Diesel
700R4
NP241

24 Spline Land Rover Axles 3.56

I guess we will see what the weakest link is.

I need to save my pennies for a Detroit rear locker.

Once again, I love the attention to detail. Nice work.

This has been fun to read through.
The 6.2 only got a bad rap because it was so new to the word of gassers, no one was used to a diesel at that point. It has power though it's not allot and they are reliable if you keep the supporting systems (cooling etc) up to par.
They don't like much boost but 5-6psi will work and provide great power increases. Over 8psi and they start to get not happy without some reinforcements internally.
Overall they are stupid reliable and easy to work on. Heavy as hell lol.
For boost you could plumb in a HY35 or a HX35. The hy has a super small exhaust housing so they spool at a super low RPM, and as I'm sure you know both the HY and HX have internal waste gates which makes tuning allot easier.
Nice looking build man, keep up the good work. Like everyone else here i'm looking forward to seeing it out on the road.
