Proper towing practices

Here's a link to a good read from the NHTSA... I know most of it is common sense, but I see people towing everyday that could benefit from reading this! You may be surprised at the things you didn't know!

Here's a bit of info that is not listed in that "Safety Manual"..... The Emergency Brake-away cable that will activate the trailer's brakes in the event that it becomes separated from from the tow vehicle is required to be attached to a separate point of the tow vehicle. So using the example of a Gooseneck trailer... technically you are supposed to make an extra mounting point besides the chain attachment points to be fully in compliance.

Did you know that? It is something I learned while doing DOT inspections here in Colorado and then also while driving as a DOT compliant driver for a HotShot company last year. Sure.... the average joe that is towing doesn't need too make this modification, but if you are a company that has the possibility of being DOT inspected, now you know!!!
