Provo River float this Sunday

I am trying to put together a last minute group to tube on the Provo this Sunday, because my wife is flying into town for an interview, and it's her birthday on Sunday.

Bridge to Vivian Park, then a BBQ at the park afterwards. I am providing most of the food, but bringing something wouldn't be a bad idea.

Since I am new here, I don't have many friends, and so perhaps you all can substitute! My wife would be thrilled to meet some new people, because she doesn't know anyone here either. :D

Figuring to meet at Vivian Park at 10:30 or so, shuttle up to the bridge area, launch at 11am-ish. If you don't have a tube, you can rent a tube at the rental place by Vivian Park, and we can all work out a shuttle situation somehow. Otherwise, Big 5 Sports is selling them for about $20. If you have a better hookup, post it.

Despite the controversy in my trip report threads, I am really a nice guy, I swear. :greg:

I think Vivian Park is alcohol free, but I don't know for sure. Your call, I am not bringing anything but brats, or burgers and accoutrements, and some sodas and water. Maybe some cupcakes for her birthday.

sounds like a fun time. If it were Saturday I'd be all over it.

I've heard of some deaths up there this year. Does the water still ahve a strong undercurrent up by the bridge? I'm planning on floating this in a month or so, and I'm curious how it goes Mike.

Good question, but I have been seeing a lot of people tubing it, and I will wear my kayaking PFD anyway.

My name is Mike, btw, if anyone is wondering. :)

The river is down pretty low right now (normal summer flows) so I doubt there will be any trouble with the current. Just FYI though, there is a $50 fine if you don't wear a PFD and you are floating the river.

Saturdays are always good, tell your wife happy birthday. How long will she be in town for? Maybe we can make an AF canyon trip on Monday or Tuesday night?

I am 100% certain she wants to climb tonight, she loves to climb. We wound up not on the river, but trail riding in AF Canyon. Heh! She likes that too, and said she had a good time. We took a fellow I know from work and his son, and we went up Forest Lake. Traffic jam of about a dozen vehicles ensued because a 12 or 13 year old kid was driving his father's Grand Cherokee, while dad spotted. There was also a nearly stock Dodge Ram that I heard had a mechanical problem, it was pulled to the side of the trail and left for a bit. Eventually the pokey people pulled off, and we all went by.
I bought a fishing tube thing at a consignment shop, and haven't used it yet. Maybe we can get together a float another weekend, or weeknight.
