I have a 99 Cherokee Classic. It has a dana 30 axle, not sure about the gears. My problem is that it clicks. When turning on pavement, it grinds. Is this normal?

I did replace the axle seals last fall. I reset the backlash to 13 thousandths, which was the best I could do after messing with it forever. The noise is not coming from the ring or pinion gears.

It looks like it has maybe a locker or something, and it clicks when I rotate one tire. It is stamped G(some symbol)6 DHB. I'll see if I can reply with the video link.

Thanks for your help. This is the only jeep front diff I've ever looked at, so I don't know if this is normal or busted. I'm happy to get more pics or whatever. Just want to get ready for spring.

A new spring and pin kit from the locker manufacture will help with noise while driving. Around 20 bucks. Also try a thicker gear oil.
